【PhoneAuto News】With the rapid popularization of new energy vehicles, in addition to the inherent advantages of low cost and comfortable driving experience of the vehicle itself, the subsidies provided by the government are also a very important factor. Among them, the exemption of purchase tax for new energy vehicles is one of the most important policies.

Recently, according to PhoneAuto, data released by the State Taxation Administration showed that in the first quarter of this year, a total of 1.257 million new energy vehicles in China enjoyed policy benefits, an increase of 17.5% year-on-year; the exemption of purchase tax for new energy vehicles was 21.24 billion yuan, an increase of 36% year-on-year.

In terms of price range, among the new energy vehicles that enjoy the exemption policy, the proportion of models priced between 100,000 and 200,000 yuan (inclusive) reached 48.5%, an increase of 14.2 percentage points compared to the same period last year; the proportion of models priced between 200,000 and 500,000 yuan (inclusive) was 31.3%, an increase of 6.1 percentage points compared to the same period last year, showing a more obvious trend of consumption upgrading. In terms of purchasing objects, the number of new energy vehicles purchased by residents increased by 15.5% year-on-year, accounting for 82.7% of the total sales of new energy vehicles; the number of new energy vehicles purchased by enterprises increased by 28.7% year-on-year, accounting for 17.3%, among which the purchase of new energy vehicles by industries such as car rental, taxi passenger transportation and public passenger transportation was at the forefront, especially the purchase of new energy vehicles by car rental and taxi passenger transportation increased by 68.1% and 10.9% year-on-year respectively, and the pace of electrification in the public sector has accelerated.

The person in charge of the relevant bureau of the State Taxation Administration introduced that since 2014, the country has been implementing a policy of exempting vehicle purchase tax for new energy vehicles. In September 2022, this policy was extended for the third time until December 31, 2023, which stabilized social expectations and boosted market confidence, and is of great significance for promoting China’s transportation energy strategic transformation and promoting the high-quality development of China’s automobile industry. The tax department will continue to pay attention to the implementation of the policy, strengthen policy publicity and guidance, and work with relevant departments to further ensure that preferential policies are implemented in a detailed manner, so as to better release the policy effects.
