Goodwood Speed Festival Popular Car Models All kinds of supercars are on the scene, including domestic ones

Goodwood Speed Festival features popular car models, including both domestic and supercars

As one of the most well-known automotive events in the global automotive industry, the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed officially kicked off on July 13th and concluded on July 16th (Beijing time).

It is understood that this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed is the largest ever, with not only familiar faces such as Bugatti, Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Lamborghini, but also some new electric cars making their first appearance at this historic event. In addition, there were also some Chinese faces at this festival. Next, let phoneauto take you on a journey to discover the popular models that appeared at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

At this festival, Bugatti showcased its latest supercar, the Chiron. The car is a track-focused super sports car, and Bugatti demonstrated its astonishing performance in the 1.16-mile hill climb race. The car is expected to be officially launched early next year, with a global limited production of 40 units and a price of 4 million euros (approximately 32.17 million RMB). Its appearance at Goodwood comes after a month of testing at Le Mans.

The car was driven by Bugatti’s official driver, Andy Wallace, who has won the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, earning him the title of “Triple Crown of Endurance Racing”. After completing its debut at Goodwood, Wallace said, “Driving this new Bugatti, which requires a high level of focus and is inspired by racing, on the roads so close to the audience at the Festival of Speed is a very special and unique experience.”

Bugatti La Voiture Noire

The Bugatti La Voiture Noire features a special carbon fiber body, weighing only 3196 pounds (1450 kilograms). It is equipped with a 1577 horsepower 8.0-liter W16 engine, giving the car a weight-to-power ratio of less than 1 kilogram/horsepower. Combined with excellent aerodynamic design, the car can reach a top speed of 500 km/h.

To commemorate the company’s 110th anniversary, Aston Martin introduced a new V12-powered supercar called the Valour at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Aston Martin Valour

The Aston Martin Valour features a retro-inspired design, drawing inspiration from the first generation V8 Vantage of the 1970s and 1980s. The car has a “horseshoe-shaped” grille and retro round headlights, giving the Valour a unique front face. Horizontal “light blade” taillights and large integrated spoilers provide the rear of the vehicle with additional retro lines, distinguishing it from many of today’s supercar styles.

The Valour’s interior also boasts luxurious decoration. Aston Martin designers have used classic wool tweed, just like the DBR1 that won the Le Mans in 1959, and combined it with high-tech carbon fiber and modern lightweight seats. Even the round wooden gear knob adds to its unique retro charm.

In terms of power, the Aston Martin Valour is equipped with a 5.2-liter V12 twin-turbocharged engine, with a maximum power of 715 horsepower and a peak torque of 753N·m. Another highlight of this car is its 6-speed manual transmission, which is very rare nowadays, thus Aston Martin calls it “the last of an era”.

Of course, this automotive event naturally cannot be without the presence of Ferrari. At this speed festival, Ferrari brought a unique custom model called KC23.

Ferrari KC23

Although this car was specially customized by Ferrari’s “Special Programs” team according to the request of an anonymous individual, Ferrari insists that the KC23 is the “pathfinder” for Ferrari’s future design language. However, even if Ferrari may abandon the exterior design of the KC23 in the future, the company is likely to retain the car’s interior atmosphere. The interior is simplified to a pair of bucket seats, a complete roll cage, and a dedicated steering wheel with a series of controls like a Formula 1 car.

The Ferrari KC23 adopts a butterfly door design, similar to the butterfly doors used by Ferrari on the LaFerrari. The vehicle body is made of a large integrated glass, with no visible A-pillars or body frames. In addition, it seems that the vehicle surface is not painted, but is decorated with a four-layer aluminum finish called “Gold Mercury”, creating a unique texture.

In terms of power, the Ferrari KC23 is equipped with a twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8 engine, which has a peak power of 591 horsepower and a torque of 700N·m.

At this year’s Goodwood Speed Festival, Lamborghini also brought several new models, in addition to the previously released Revuelto, this time it also brought the SC63 LMDh, which can be said to be the most advanced race car ever produced by Lamborghini.

From the appearance, it is difficult to tell that this car is a masterpiece of Lamborghini, because it needs to meet the design requirements of the LMDh (Le Mans Daytona hybrid) category. However, if you are familiar enough with Lamborghini, its iconic “Y-shaped headlights” still indicate its identity as a Lamborghini. The car is powered by a race car engine developed by Lamborghini’s Squadra Corse racing department, with a newly developed 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbocharged engine driven by both a motor and a generator. Lamborghini chose the Liger chassis required by the race and equipped it with a Bosch generator unit and a battery pack developed by Williams. Although the specific power parameters of the vehicle are currently unknown, according to the requirements, its maximum power is limited to below 671 horsepower.

According to the previous plan, a total of two Lamborghini SC63 LMDh cars will be entered into the race, one will participate in the entire 2024 season of the FIA World Endurance Championship, and the other will go to IMSA to participate in the North American Endurance Championship. However, the car is not yet fully tuned and will continue to undergo various tests in order to challenge Ferrari at Le Mans in the 2024 season.

In addition to various well-known foreign car manufacturers, there are also more and more domestic brand appearances at this speed festival. Among them is the new energy brand Polestar, which is owned by Geely and has a good reputation overseas. This time, Polestar brought three models: Polestar 3, Polestar 2 BST edition 230, and Polestar 5 prototype.

Polestar 5

As an electric vehicle brand, all three models brought by Polestar this time have very powerful power. Among them, the Polestar 3 offers a dual-motor long-range version and a dual-motor high-performance version. The maximum power of the high-performance version is 380 kilowatts, and the maximum torque is 910 Newton meters. It only takes 4.7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour. The Polestar 2 BST edition 230 also uses a dual-motor drive, with a maximum power of 475 horsepower (350 kilowatts) and a maximum torque of 680 Newton meters. The acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour is 4.4 seconds. The power of the Polestar 5 goes further, with a maximum power of 871 horsepower (650 kilowatts) for its dual-motor power system and a peak torque of 900 N·m. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in under 3 seconds.

Polaris 3

As a brand under SAIC, MG brought several models to this speed festival, including the electric sports car Cyberster, which made its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show. The car has already been officially unveiled in the UK and is expected to enter the domestic market within the year.

MG Cyberster

Based on the UK price (approximately 478,300 yuan for the single-motor version and approximately 565,200 yuan for the dual-motor version), the car doesn’t come cheap. However, based on appearance alone, its handsome design is enough to fulfill many people’s fantasies about sports cars. The MG Cyberster adopts a Roadster design, with a two-seat layout and a mechanical soft top structure. In terms of details, the car is inspired by atomic energy and features a parametric texture and a brand-new front bumper design, presenting a very sporty visual effect.

As for the interior, the car does not adopt a traditional central control screen design. Instead, it focuses on the driver, with a surround three-LCD screen layout. The steering wheel adopts a double-spoke flat-bottom design and is covered in a large amount of leather material, creating a good luxury atmosphere.

In terms of power, the new car will have a single-motor high-power version, a single-motor low-power version, and a dual-motor version. The single-motor version is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle, rear-wheel drive, with a maximum power of 231 kW for the low-power version and 250 kW for the high-power version. The dual-motor version is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the front and rear axles, with a combined maximum power of 400 kW.

Unlike previous competitions, with the rise of new energy vehicles worldwide, more and more car companies have begun to enter this field. This trend was also reflected at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. What is even more surprising is that, with the help of new energy vehicles, Chinese car companies have started to appear at this prestigious event. It is believed that as domestic brands continue to expand their influence in the global market with new energy vehicles, there will be more Chinese car companies participating in the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the future.
