Pulling out the ‘stuck nail’ of Intel chips, this year arrives on M3 iMac

This year, M3 iMac comes equipped with the long-awaited solution of 'pulling out the 'stuck nail' of Intel chips

In the Mac family, the iMac product line always looks a bit “different.” Unlike the traditional silver or gray body of the Mac, the iMac’s slim and colorful image is more in line with the general public and can easily integrate into every home and office.

With the debut of the M3 chip, the iMac with the M3 chip has also arrived by our side. After making great strides in appearance design, this year’s new iMac has once again improved its performance by incorporating the more powerful M3 chip, allowing more people to enjoy the experience of powerful performance.

The “heart” of the iMac, the M3 chip, is its biggest highlight. This chip is the first 3nm chip in Mac, with as many as 25 billion transistors. In comparison, the previous generation iMac’s built-in M1 chip had 16 billion transistors. With more transistors, the new iMac has significantly improved graphics and central processing unit performance.

We tested this M3 chip using GeekBench. In the GeekBench 6 benchmark, the M3 chip ultimately scored 3121 points in single-core and 11957 points in multi-core, representing a 30% improvement in single-core and a 45% improvement in multi-core compared to the previous generation M1 chip. In our daily usage scenarios, this means that the iMac with the M3 chip has higher efficiency in multitasking, video/image rendering, and other tasks.

From the perspective of the chip, the iMac is also a device that can perfectly carry the M3 chip. As the industry’s first computer chip to adopt the 3nm process, the M3 chip represents a major update compared to the previously released M2 chip. Therefore, the iMac with the M3 chip will also have a longer lifecycle, which coincides with the longer update cycle of the desktop-level iMac.

Of course, Apple has also further demonstrated its sincerity to users still using Intel chip iMacs. Since the debut of the M1 chip in 2020, Apple’s software ecosystem has become quite mature. After the Mac family transitioned from Intel chips to Apple Silicon, it has become more closely connected with other devices within the Apple ecosystem: you can use the Continuity feature to control both the Mac and iPad with the same keyboard and mouse, and transfer files between the two devices; you can also directly use more iOS and iPadOS apps on the iMac, moving some tasks that previously required a phone or tablet to the larger screen of the iMac, thereby gaining a broader screen view.

If you are still using an iMac with an Intel chip, now is the perfect time to switch to an iMac with an M3 chip. Compared to previous iMacs, the new iMac has upgraded design and color, making it better suited for any living environment.

Moreover, the new iMac also has many “fruit-flavored details”. This time, we got a green iMac. From the moment we opened the box, green has been present in every aspect, from the packaging handle to the screen protector and the keyboard and mouse cables, even on the welcome page after booting up, there are many color schemes that are identical to the iMac.

Thanks to the M3 chip, the new iMac continues the tradition of slim design. It has an overall thickness of 11.5 millimeters and weighs less than five kilograms, which means we can place it wherever we like without much burden.

Similarly, the new iMac still uses magnetic interfaces, and their magnetic force is still strong, so there is no need to worry about power outages during daily use.

Next to the magnetic interfaces are the Thunderbolt ports of the iMac. The standard version of the iMac has two interfaces compatible with Thunderbolt 4 and USB 4, while the high-end version provides two additional USB-C interfaces.

If you plan to use the iMac for a long time, I highly recommend choosing the high-end version. Not only does the high-end version have more ports, but its power supply also includes a wired network port, and the accompanying magic keyboard also has Touch ID, which makes the iMac experience even more perfect.

As for the front of the body, it is a high-quality 24-inch 4.5K screen, which supports true-color display technology and has a maximum brightness of 500 nits. The top has a 1080P lens, which can provide clear video calling. The bottom left and right sides have a six-speaker system that supports spatial audio, and its actual listening experience can even compete with the HomePod mini.

Within the Apple ecosystem, the iMac is a computer that meets the expectations of the public and is suitable for most users. In the hearts of many users, it has a good appearance design, can better integrate with the home or office, and many people choose this all-in-one machine because they are attracted by the stylish design and high-quality screen of the iMac.

It has to be said that the replacement cycle for home and office users’ computers is generally long, and the durable characteristics of Mac itself have indeed deterred some users from having the idea of replacing them. Although there is currently no data showing how many people are still using iMac with Intel chips, it can be seen from Apple’s repeated comparisons with Intel chips at the press conference and the repeated mention of the better interconnectivity between Mac and iPhone under Apple Silicon on the details page that the target of the new iMac is not only to encourage some M1 iMac users to upgrade but also to target a richer group of people who are still using iMac with Intel chips.

With the M3 chip, Apple has released more sincerity, and the latest generation of iMac can be said to be the new olive branch that Apple has extended to Intel users.
