OnePlus presents rainwater touch technology, operation experience is far ahead of Apple in terms of smoothness

OnePlus's rainwater touch technology surpasses Apple in terms of smoothness

【phoneauto News】On August 9th, at noon, Liu Ziyang, the President of OnePlus China, released a video on his personal Weibo account, showcasing a new technology called “Rainwater Touch” that is equipped in the new OnePlus Ace 2 Pro. Even with water on the phone screen, the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro can still be easily operated.

In the related video, OnePlus compared the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro with a competitor’s product (Apple). First, OnePlus simulated the scenario of daily water droplets, where both phones had water droplets on the screen. However, the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro seemed to have no difference in operation and was still able to easily enter the password to unlock the phone, while the iPhone next to it was affected by the water droplets and only managed to unlock after multiple attempts. Then, OnePlus simulated the scenario of using the phones in the rain. The OnePlus Ace 2 Pro successfully made a phone call, while the iPhone next to it was obviously affected by the water droplets. In misty conditions, the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro was very responsive whether it was swiping to view pictures or zooming in, while the iPhone’s operation was still not as smooth.

Liu Ziyang stated that in order to achieve this technology, OnePlus specially customized a dedicated chip for this new screen to accurately identify the screen’s status and complete the core algorithm. OnePlus has overcome three major core touch algorithms: spatial convolution filtering, self-capacitance, and single connected domain single finger. Under the effect of these three core algorithms, noise around the finger is suppressed and the finger signal is reasonably restored, greatly improving the core touch problem that has plagued the industry for many years. Many users encounter problems such as watching short videos while taking a shower, replying to messages after washing hands, answering calls and replying to messages in rainy weather, and sweaty hands while playing games. The “Rainwater Touch” technology will bring unprecedented improvements to the experience in these scenarios.
