Sales of Chinese brand passenger cars rose 814% YoY in April, with 999 million vehicles sold
【PhoneAuto News】Recently, according to PhoneAuto, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (referred to as CAAM) conducted statistical analysis. In April 2023, sales of domestic Chinese brand passenger cars reached 999,000 units, a decrease of 5% compared to the previous month, and an increase of 81.4% compared to the same period last year. They accounted for 55.2% of the total passenger car sales, an increase of 3 percentage points from the previous month, but a decrease of 1.9 percentage points from the same period last year. From January to April 2023, sales of domestic Chinese brand passenger cars reached 3.682 million units, an increase of 18.8% compared to the same period last year. They accounted for 53% of the total passenger car sales, an increase of 5.4 percentage points compared to the same period last year.
Specifically, in April 2023, the market share of Chinese brand sedans, SUVs and MPVs were 47.7%, 60.7% and 54.5% respectively. The market share of Chinese brand MPVs decreased slightly compared to the previous month, while the market share of Chinese brand sedans and SUVs increased slightly. Compared to the same period last year, the market share of Chinese brand sedans increased slightly, while the market share of Chinese brand SUVs and MPVs decreased to varying degrees. From January to April 2023, the market share of Chinese brand sedans, SUVs and MPVs were 43.1%, 60.2% and 58.4% respectively. Compared to the same period last year, the market share of Chinese brand sedans, SUVs and MPVs increased slightly.
According to previous reports, from January to April 2023, the total sales volume of the top ten enterprise groups in terms of car sales reached 6.846 million units, an increase of 3.8% compared to the same period last year. They accounted for 83.1% of the total car sales, a decrease of 2.6 percentage points compared to the same period last year.

Among these top ten companies, compared to the same period last year, the sales growth rates of BYD, Chery and BAIC were significantly higher, with double-digit growth. FAW, Changan and Geely showed a slight increase in sales, while other companies showed varying degrees of decline.
