Samsung begins mass production of OLED display screens for iPhone 15, surpassing LG and BOE
Samsung surpasses LG and BOE, starts mass producing OLED screens for iPhone 15
【PhoneAuto News】As the release date of iPhone 15 approaches, there is an increasing amount of news about the new device. On August 1st, it was reported that Samsung, Apple’s main OLED screen supplier, has obtained bulk production approval for the display panels of all four models in the iPhone 15 series.
According to a report from The Elec, Samsung’s screens for iPhone 15 were approved on August 1st, which is ahead of its competitors LG Display and BOE. It is reported that LG Display provides OLED panels for two models in the iPhone 15 Pro series, and it has already obtained conditional approval for iPhone 15 Pro, while the official approval for iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to be completed within one to two months. BOE is currently providing OLED screens for the standard iPhone 15 and the larger iPhone 15 Plus, and is still waiting for conditional approval from Apple.
There are rumors that the bezels of iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be narrower than those of the iPhone 14 Pro models, and the reduction in bezel size has also led to manufacturing issues. Especially for LG Display, it has encountered technological setbacks in producing screens with narrower bezels. In addition, both LG Display and BOE have encountered difficulties in adding a punch-hole to the screen’s flexible island, and BOE may even miss out on this year’s screen supply due to this, which forces them to transfer the OLED supply to Samsung, resulting in an increase in Samsung’s OLED shipments for iPhone compared to expectations.

According to the report, Apple may prioritize the production of the 6.1-inch Pro model instead of the 6.7-inch Pro Max, which is currently most affected by the screen supply, to ensure that the supply of Pro models reaches 50-60% this year. Despite the impact on the supply chain, Apple is still expected to release the entire iPhone 15 series as scheduled in September. However, the supply of iPhone 15 Pro Max may be limited in the first week after the release.
