Is the South Korean mobile phone market about to change? Young people all love using Apple, Samsung is in danger!
Will the South Korean mobile phone market change? Young people love Apple, Samsung at risk!
【Phoneauto News】iPhone is widely popular in many countries around the world, especially in the high-end smartphone market. However, the situation is different in South Korea. Apple does not dominate the smartphone market share in South Korea as the company hopes, but this situation may change in the future.
iPhone 14 series
Samsung has long dominated the mobile phone market in South Korea. Apple comes second. Since its launch in 2009, Apple’s development in South Korea has been slow and has never occupied a large portion of the market share.
Around 2013, the situation started to change, and Apple successfully captured 14% of the market share. However, despite the increasing popularity of the iPhone over the years, Samsung continues to dominate in South Korea.

However, a new public opinion survey shows hope for Apple’s future in the country. A recent survey conducted by the “Korea JoongAng Daily” among 1001 South Koreans showed that the younger generation aged 18 to 29 uses iPhones more than Samsung smartphones. In this group, Apple holds 60% of the market share, while Samsung holds 32%.
The market shifts towards Samsung from the age group of 30 to 39, with Samsung holding 56% of the market share and Apple holding 41%. For the age group of 40 to 49, Samsung is still the preferred choice, with a market share of 78%, while Apple holds 10%.
Samsung’s market share continues to rise with an increase in age. Among the age group of 50 to 59, 80% choose Samsung, while only 6% choose Apple. In the age group of 60 to 69, Samsung occupies 85% of the market share, while Apple only has 4% of the market share.
Samsung’s market share began to decline only among people aged 70 and above. In this age group, Samsung only occupies 71% of the market share, while Apple holds on to 1%. Meanwhile, LG has emerged as a strong competitor, occupying 20% of the market share among the elderly.
Although it is a very slow-growing process, Apple seems to have started making some progress in South Korea. Whether Apple will surpass Samsung and become the largest smartphone brand in South Korea remains to be seen.
