Toyota apologizes for factory shutdowns and announces that 14 factories will gradually resume production today
【phoneauto News】On August 29th, phoneauto noticed that Toyota officially announced that production in the 12 factories producing Toyota and Lexus vehicles had been halted starting from the morning of August 29th. From the evening of August 29th, the remaining two factories would also cease production. Thus, all 14 factories in Japan would be shut down. It is reported that the reason for the suspension of Toyota’s production in Japanese factories is a system failure that prevents the processing of component orders. Currently, this is the second time Toyota has halted production within the year due to supply chain issues.
On August 30th, phoneauto noticed again that Toyota announced that production on 25 production lines in the 12 factories in Japan is expected to resume from the morning of the 30th, and the remaining Motomachi and Kyoto factories are expected to resume production on the second shift of the day. Toyota stated, “We apologize once again to our customers, suppliers, and related parties for any inconvenience caused by the suspension of operations.”
It is worth mentioning that Toyota officially emphasized that the reason for the complete shutdown of all Toyota factories in Japan this time was not due to a cyber attack. Toyota’s emphasis on this point is likely because in March 2022, component supplier Kojima Press Industry suffered a cyber attack, resulting in a complete shutdown of all Toyota factories in Japan. As for the reason for the shutdown of Toyota factories on August 29th, it is still under investigation.
