Battle for the New Energy Vehicle Capital Shenzhen, Chongqing, Xi'an, Hefei, and More Compete for the Top Spot

【PhoneAuto News】The new energy vehicle industry is in a period of vigorous development. Not only are car manufacturers eyeing this piece of cake, but major cities are also racing to develop this industry. According to media statistics, cities such as Shenzhen, Chongqing, Changchun, Xi’an, and Hefei are actively layouting the new energy vehicle industry, competing for the title of “the first city of new energy vehicles.” According to PhoneAuto’s understanding, by the end of 2022, Xi’an has won the title of “the first city of new energy vehicles” with a sales volume of 1.0155 million new energy vehicles. Shenzhen is an indisputable dark horse this year.

As the national city with the “double first” of industrial output value and industrial added value, Shenzhen has set a goal for 2025 – the annual production of new energy vehicles exceeding 2 million, and the creation of a trillion-level automotive industry cluster. Compared with the goals of “1.2 million vehicles in Shanghai” and “1.5 million vehicles in Xi’an,” Shenzhen’s goal is truly ambitious.

According to data, as of the first half of this year, Shenzhen’s new energy vehicle ownership exceeded 860,000, with a penetration rate of over 60% for new electric vehicles, leading the national level of electrification of public city vehicles. According to media analysis, Shenzhen’s greater confidence comes from the new energy vehicle industry chain, with one company with an annual output value of over 100 billion yuan, seven companies with annual output values of over 10 billion yuan, and more than 20 companies with annual output values of over 1 billion yuan. In terms of the concentration of the new energy industry, Shenzhen’s comprehensive index is 88.1, ranking first on relevant lists.

As early as August last year, the first national regulation on intelligent connected vehicles was officially implemented, and Shenzhen became the first city in China to allow “true unmanned” autonomous driving vehicles on the road. Therefore, Shenzhen also has a first-mover advantage in the field of intelligent connectivity.
