Potential Launch of Sony Xperia 1 VI at MWC 2024; Camera Specs Unveiled.
[Mobile China News] Although it doesn’t have much presence in the domestic market, Sony has been continuously releasing new flagship phones. According to Japanese media reports, Sony’s 2024 flagship phone, Xperia 1 VI, may be released at the end of February next year at MWC 2024, several months earlier than previous years. The phone will be equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, but other specifications are still unclear.

Recently, a netizen posted a camera specification table on Weibo, which is believed to be for the Sony Xperia 1 VI, sparking the attention of netizens. The table shows that the camera configuration of the Xperia 1 VI is almost the same as the previous Xperia 1 V, except that the focal length of the telephoto lens has changed from 85mm-125mm to 85mm-130mm. This means that the new phone has a slight increase in zoom at the telephoto end, but it’s not significant.

- Honor Magic V2 will also have a super large cup, expected to be released in early next year.
- Redmi and Realme face the risk of market share decline in India, while OnePlus performs strongly.
This news has disappointed some netizens who were expecting Sony’s new phone and feel that Sony hasn’t made any innovation in the camera department. However, some netizens also believe that this may just be speculation and the actual specifications are still to be officially announced. In addition, some netizens point out that the smartphone cameras have already reached a certain level and there doesn’t need to be a major change with each generation. Instead, software optimization and functionality expansion should be focused on.
In fact, Sony is not the only manufacturer that has been stagnant in terms of camera specifications. For example, the camera specifications of Samsung’s Galaxy S22 and S23 have remained largely the same, with only the S22 Ultra and S23 Ultra showing significant improvements. Therefore, Sony’s strategy may not be completely unreasonable. However, looking at domestic smartphone manufacturers, imaging has become a new battleground for flagship and even mid-range phones, which may reflect the different competitive pressures between the domestic and international smartphone market.
