Toyota plans to produce 600,000 electric vehicles annually by 2025

【Phoneauto News】Recently, Phoneauto noticed that foreign media reported that Toyota plans to increase its electric vehicle production capacity, aiming to triple its target for 2024 by 2025. According to the plan, Toyota’s electric vehicle production capacity will reach 190,000 units by 2024, and by calculation, Toyota plans to increase the production of Toyota and Lexus brand electric vehicles to 600,000 units in 2025. Currently, Toyota has informed its major component suppliers.

Previously, there were reports that Toyota plans to launch a new generation of electric vehicles in 2026, which will be 40% cheaper than the bZ4X. As a comparison, the current Toyota bZ4X has a suggested retail price of 199,800 to 284,800 yuan, which means the price of the new car may be below 200,000 yuan. To achieve this goal, on the one hand, in addition to providing lithium iron phosphate batteries, Toyota will also accelerate battery research and development. Previously, Toyota announced that it has made a breakthrough in solid-state battery technology and plans to achieve mass production of solid-state batteries by 2028.

In addition, Toyota will make changes in the manufacturing process. This includes integrating emerging car manufacturing technologies such as automated assembly lines and large-tonnage die-casting machines with Toyota’s lean production methods. In July of this year, Toyota announced that the new electric vehicles to be launched in 2026 will adopt a new industry technology called “integrated die casting technology.” This technology uses aluminum casting equipment to produce large one-piece body parts, which can greatly reduce the number of components and production processes.

In terms of sales, in the first half of this year, Toyota’s cumulative sales of pure electric vehicles reached 46,171 units, a year-on-year increase of 517%. In August of this year, the monthly sales of the FAW Toyota bZ series reached 6,578 units, with the Toyota bZ3, the world’s first pure electric sedan, accounting for the majority with 5,836 units, accounting for 88.7% of the total sales of the bZ series. This is also the only new energy vehicle model from Toyota that has entered the mainstream market.
