Apple's flagship dominates phone market in H1, high-end smartphones buck trend

【phoneauto News】According to phoneauto, recent reports state that Apple’s top flagship has become the “king of phones” in the first half of the year, while high-end smartphones have achieved growth against the market trend.

iPhone 14 Pro Max

According to Caijing News, the latest data from market research company Omdia shows that in the first half of 2023, Apple, one of the world’s largest smartphone brands in terms of shipments, had its flagship models iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 ranked among the top three globally in terms of shipments. This result is in sharp contrast to the data from the same period last year, when the iPhone 13 topped the list with 33.7 million units shipped.

This change reveals two major trends in the global smartphone market: negative growth and steady expansion of the high-end market. Despite the overall decline in the global smartphone market, the resilience of the high-end market still exists. Media analysis suggests that this may be because consumers, under economic pressure, are more inclined to purchase higher-priced high-end smartphones.

In the Chinese market, the entry-level iPhone 14 starts at 5,999 yuan, while the price of the iPhone 14 Pro is 7,999 yuan, and the price of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is even higher at 8,999 yuan. This indicates that consumers are increasingly shifting towards the high-end market.

Data shows that Apple accounted for 45% of global smartphone revenue and 85% of operating profit in the second quarter, setting a record for the highest quarterly share. Apple CEO Tim Cook has stated that the iPhone has become an “essential part” of people’s lives, and the company is capable of convincing consumers to spend more money on their phones. There are also insiders revealing that Apple is considering raising the prices of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, partly to target the stability of high-end consumer spending. This strategy may further enhance Apple’s position in the global high-end smartphone market.

Despite the overall gloomy situation in the global smartphone market, Apple has successfully attracted more consumers by launching high-end products. The success of this strategy also provides a valuable reference for other mobile phone manufacturers.
