Changan and NIO join forces to drive standardization of battery swapping technology.

[PhoneAuto News] On November 21st, Changan Automobile announced on its official Weibo account that it has signed an important cooperation agreement with NIO in Chongqing. The two parties have decided to deepen their cooperation in the field of battery swapping, including establishing battery swapping standards, constructing a battery swapping network, developing battery swapping models, and establishing efficient battery asset management mechanisms.

It is worth mentioning that NIO has achieved significant success in the construction of its battery swapping network in China. According to NIO’s official Weibo account, as of November 20th, NIO has surpassed 20,000 charging piles, making it the automobile brand with the most charging piles in the Chinese market. These charging piles cover 306 cities nationwide, reaching as far as Fuyuan in the east, Kashi in the west, Mohe in the north, and Sansha in the south, achieving comprehensive coverage of the four extremes of China’s cities.

NIO not only continues to strengthen the construction of its urban battery swapping network but also actively plans its high-speed battery swapping network. Currently, NIO has completed the construction of 1,090 high-speed supercharging piles, including 228 high-speed 500kW ultra-fast charging piles. This initiative has made NIO the brand with the most layout of high-speed supercharging piles in China. Since the opening of the first national rapid charging route between Sichuan and Tibet on December 22, 2020, NIO has successfully connected 70 Power Journeys charging and swapping routes, including three routes to Tibet via Sichuan, Qinghai, and Yunnan, the Duku Highway, and the Silk Road. Today, NIO announced that the high-speed battery swapping network of the G45 Daguang Expressway Jingguang section has been completed. This north-south 2,422-kilometer high-speed battery swapping route has a layout of 31 battery swapping stations, passing through 6 provinces and cities, including Beijing, Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Jiangxi, and Guangdong. This cooperation between Changan Automobile and NIO will not only enhance their respective brand influence but also bring more convenient and efficient battery swapping services to consumers. As an innovative way to supplement energy, battery swapping helps solve the pain points of new energy vehicles’ range anxiety and improves the user experience.
