Hongmeng Smart Travel’ Strikes Aims to be the Technological Foundation of Chinese Smart Electric Vehicles

Hongmeng Smart Travel' Initiative Aims to Establish Itself as the Cornerstone of China's Smart Electric Vehicle Industry

【PhoneAuto】”Huawei does not make cars, it just wants to become a supplier to the automotive industry and use its advantages in communication, computing, and artificial intelligence technologies to assist in the intelligent upgrade of the automotive industry.” This is a statement previously made by Ren Zhengfei regarding Huawei’s automotive business, and it is also a widely circulated phrase since Huawei entered the automotive industry.

Because of this, even though Huawei is not a car manufacturer, consumers still highly recognize the significance behind the “HUAWEI” logo when purchasing vehicles. After all, the capabilities and technologies that Huawei brings to the automotive industry are “far ahead” in the industry.

“Hongmeng Zhixing” is approaching with the goal of being the technological base for China's intelligent electric vehicles

On the evening of November 9th, Huawei’s Smart Travel Solution launch event and the pre-sale launch of the Smart World S7 were officially held in Shenzhen. At the event, Huawei officially released its new strategy for smart travel solutions and launched Huawei Smart Choice Vehicle Business Ecology, thereby forming two major series of vehicles: the Wenzhen series and the Zhijie series.

At the same time, Huawei’s smart travel solutions have had deep technological accumulations in digital platforms, all-scenario interconnection, intelligent driving, intelligent vehicle control, and holistic security. Among these, Huawei’s iDVP digital platform can be seen as the “black soil” for realizing software-defined cars and the “nerve center” of smart car products. And Huawei’s self-developed intelligent cabin, intelligent driving, and intelligent vehicle control operating systems give smart vehicles an intelligent brain, making the cars smarter as they drive.

The existence of these technologies confirms the purpose and significance of Huawei’s smart travel solutions – to create world-leading intelligent automotive technology and experiences. Huawei’s goal is to become the technological base for China’s intelligent electric vehicles.

It is well known that with the rapid development and increasing market share of new energy vehicles, the intelligence of cars is receiving more and more attention, leading to significant changes in the driving experience. In such a development trend, HarmonyOS Intelligent Cabin comes into being, with five key value characteristics: smoothness, intelligence, ecology, security, and constantly updated features.

Whether it’s a mobile phone or a car’s infotainment system, smoothness is the fundamental guarantee for their operation. In the HarmonyOS Intelligent Cabin, whether you are switching between system interfaces or opening/closing applications, whether you are communicating with it through voice or using your fingers to zoom in or out on the map, the feeling that HarmonyOS Intelligent Cabin gives you is “seamless” – achieving the ultimate smooth experience of “hand, eye, and mind” integration.

In addition, HarmonyOS Smart Cockpit has been custom-designed based on research on driving scenarios, making the users’ operating steps simple and clear, without the need to search through various menus. At the same time, while ensuring driving safety and smooth usage, details such as 3D simulation animation and micro-motion icons have also enhanced users’ driving enjoyment.

In terms of security, the HarmonyOS vehicle system inherits the security capabilities of HarmonyOS. In the case of using different Huawei accounts to drive the same vehicle, this system uses financial-grade 3D face recognition technology to not only adjust personalized settings automatically but also isolate the spaces of different accounts from each other to protect personal privacy.

To prevent driver fatigue, HarmonyOS uses a driver monitoring system for fatigue warning, and can also classify risk levels based on the degree of user eye closure, providing corresponding audio + voice prompts + visual fatigue driving level reminders.

When it comes to ecosystem, it goes without saying that based on the distributed capabilities and super terminal concept of HarmonyOS, HarmonyOS Smart Cockpit can achieve deep integration of people and the cabin at the system level, allowing the smart cockpit to perceive the status of people, the vehicle, and the inside and outside of the cabin. Moreover, it can connect and utilize existing smart terminals such as smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, PCs, and headphones around consumers, forming a more powerful smart travel super terminal.

Always useful and constantly updated, as the name suggests, is because HarmonyOS Smart Cockpit can achieve continuous iterative upgrades, and the scalable ecosystem is also an essential condition for HarmonyOS Smart Cockpit to stand out in the industry.

In addition, HarmonyOS’s intelligent voice assistant Xiaoyi has also been integrated with Huawei’s Pangolin model and specially optimized for users’ travel scenarios. For example, if you are traveling outside and love food, it will recommend local restaurants to you; if you love sightseeing, it will recommend local attractions to you. And with long-term use by users, Xiaoyi integrated with Pangolin model will gradually upgrade and learn, becoming more and more understanding of your preferences, knowing what you want.

Smart cabin is a product that has emerged in the era of new energy vehicles. It goes beyond the traditional role of cars as transportation vehicles, considering cars as intelligent spaces and aiming to enhance the user experience through smart technology. Although this goal has not been fully achieved yet, it is evident that Huawei’s HarmonyOS smart cabin is leading the way.

If a smart cabin provides users with a more comfortable driving experience, then smart driving assistance provides sufficient guarantee for user’s driving operations and safety. HUAWEI ADS 2.0 advanced smart driving system has achieved advanced smart driving in high-speed and urban areas without the dependence on high-precision maps. Compared to current competitors that only support intelligent driving on urban highways, Huawei is clearly leading the way.

This achievement is due to Huawei’s construction of a rich scene library in AI training clusters, conducting more than 10 million kilometers of simulation tests in it every day, with model iteration every 5 days. This achieves continuous iteration and optimization of smart driving algorithms and scene strategies through massive amounts of data.

In addition, data shows that Huawei is “far ahead.” As of September this year, the average takeover mileage for the HUAWEI ADS 2.0 advanced smart driving system in long-distance NCA navigation is as high as 200km, and the success rate of entering and exiting urban elevated highways is over 99%. Its reliability is comparable to that of experienced “veteran drivers.”

Friends who frequently drive should understand that safe driving on the road cannot be guaranteed just by driving safely and following the rules. Even experienced drivers with decades of driving experience cannot guarantee that they can make the perfect choices and actions in unforeseen situations while driving.

Regarding driving safety, Huawei has introduced the all-round collision prevention system in the smart travel solution released this time, which can achieve forward, sideways, and backward collision prevention capabilities. This is mainly due to Huawei fully leveraging the algorithm advantages of LiDAR, vision radar, and millimeter-wave radar multi-sensor fusion, combined with the industry’s first GOD network, enabling vehicles to recognize different types of irregular obstacles, thus greatly reducing the risk of accidents.

In the recently discussed AEB technology, HUAWEI ADS 2.0 can reach a stopping speed of 90km/h even at night, which can be said to be “far ahead” of the industry in terms of active safety performance. In the so-called “social media videos,” HUAWEI’s AEB test results are also ranked first.

With the progress of intelligentization in new energy vehicles, many car manufacturers have prioritized vehicle intelligence, human-machine interaction, and assisted driving, but have lost the ultimate sense of control as a means of transportation. However, HUAWEI has not given up its pursuit of ultimate control. In this release, HUAWEI brings us the new Tuling intelligent chassis and intelligent chassis system.

“鸿蒙智行”来袭 目标是中国智能电动汽车的技术底座

Just like the responsiveness of operating a mobile phone, the performance of a car’s handling depends on whether it can respond precisely to the driver’s actions. However, this extreme sense of control is only meaningful for professional racing cars and may be more dangerous for ordinary drivers. Therefore, each car manufacturer has adjusted the handling characteristics of their car models in various ways. As a result, some people love it while others cannot accept it at all.

The Tuling intelligent chassis released by HUAWEI elevates the driving experience from simple tuning by the manufacturer to intelligent control. It is equipped with a multi-modal fusion perception system, HUAWEI DATS dynamic adaptive torque system, and HUAWEI xMotion intelligent front and rear axle vector control system, which perfectly combines intelligent control with mechanical tuning, thus achieving better handling stability and driving comfort, and improving vehicle performance in various conditions.

Among them, the HUAWEI xMotion intelligent vehicle body coordination control system, as a native application of HUAWEI iDVP, centrally coordinates the drive, braking, steering, and suspension of the vehicle. Through centimeter-level precise estimation of the vehicle’s posture and using dual feedforward and feedback active pre-control technology, it achieves full posture control of the vehicle’s 4 degrees of freedom. Coupled with the more powerful, lower energy consumption, and quieter HUAWEI DriveONE golden electric drive unit, it makes driving safer, easier, and more comfortable for users.

When it comes to challenging driving conditions, that’s when HUAWEI DATS 2.0 shines. It achieves intelligent coordinated control of the entire vehicle in both longitudinal and lateral directions, effectively improving the vehicle’s handling performance in extreme conditions. For example, in low adhesion environments such as wetlands and snow, HUAWEI DATS 2.0 can enhance the vehicle’s driving safety, ensuring stable vehicle control and user comfort.

Furthermore, the launch event also showcased Huawei’s other “leading-edge” black technology, such as Huawei Car Networking, Intelligent BMS Management System, Full Liquid Cooling Supercharge, HUAWEI xPIXEL Smart Headlights, HUAWEI xScene Light Field Screen, and HUAWEI AR-HUD technology features. And it’s highly likely that these technologies will also be presented in the upcoming Wanjie M9, which will be released next month.

Since May 2019, when Huawei confirmed the establishment of the Intelligent Car Solution BU department, Huawei and Cyrus have joined forces to create a cross-border pioneer in the intelligent car business, releasing models like Wanjie M5 and Wanjie New M7. Now, this intelligent car ecosystem has welcomed the all-new LUXEED ZhiJie. Thus, forming the two major Huawei smart travel solution brands of Wanjie and ZhiJie.

As Yu Chengdong expressed at the conference, Huawei’s intelligent travel solution is a strategic upgrade to Huawei’s intelligent car mode, aiming to leverage Huawei’s over 30 years of experience in ICT field’s intelligent car incremental components, technology solutions, Huawei’s terminal-based accumulated quality control, sales services, brand marketing experiences from over 10 years of consumer business, and collaborate deeply with automotive brands.

From a user’s perspective, “technology for the people” is the core essence of technological development. Any technology should serve humanity, and leading, excellent technologies should make users unaware of their existence, where all operations and responses happen naturally, just like the current performance of Huawei’s intelligent travel solution.

HarmonyOS Smart Cabin makes user operations more convenient and seamless, while the voice assistant Xiaoyi, blessed with the Pang Wu model, gradually becomes more like a “person.” HUAWEI ADS 2.0 is the same, with its intelligent driving being like an experienced driver with decades of driving experience. The Tu Ling Intelligent Chassis automatically makes the optimal decision before users can perceive it, bringing better control stability and ride comfort to users. This kind of existence and performance of technology can constantly bring cars closer to the scenes in science fiction movies, and no matter what role Huawei plays, it is always a qualified promoter and guide.

In addition, in the current automotive ecosystem of Wenchjie, the Wenchjie M9 has not been officially released, but based on the technologies introduced in this press conference, it is speculated that these technologies will be fully reflected in the Wenchjie M9 and there may even be the debut of new cutting-edge technology. After all, Yu Chengdong has previously stated, “The Wenchjie M9 is the best SUV under 10 million yuan and is also the most powerful SUV you can see on the road.” However, the real situation remains to be seen, so like everyone else, we can only patiently wait for the new car launch event of the Wenchjie M9 in December.
