OPPO Watch 4 Pro Experience A versatile flagship smartwatch with high playability

OPPO Watch 4 Pro A versatile flagship smartwatch with high playability

In March 2020, OPPO released their first smartwatch, which performed well in terms of appearance, battery life, and intelligence. Subsequently, OPPO strengthened the product’s innovation in practicality, and the deeply customized sports mode received high praise. Now, the OPPO Watch has evolved to its fourth generation. Based on the previous generation, the OPPO Watch 4 Pro has made comprehensive improvements in battery life, health monitoring, sports modes, and also offers more playability. Now, let’s take a look at the experience of the new generation OPPO Watch 4 Pro.

For most people, the significance of a watch is still a wrist decoration. Compared to sleep monitoring and sports data recording modes, the appearance is still the primary consideration for consumers when choosing a watch. In this regard, OPPO has a forward-looking perspective. Since the first generation of smartwatches, their products have been filled with their unique design language.

Now, the OPPO Watch 4 Pro further explores the previous dual-curved design. It adopts an overall universal curved design. After several generations of exploration, the fit angle of the curved surface on the top and bottom of the OPPO Watch 4 Pro is more perfect, making the watch fit the wrist better and improving the comfort when wearing the product. At the same time, the curved design makes it look more delicate and provides a softer touch during operation.

The stainless steel crown is located on the right side of the watch face. It is mechanically diamond-cut and CD pattern sandblasted, which improves both the appearance and feel. When gently turned to quickly zoom the view, it also provides comfortable feedback and brings an immersive interactive experience. Below the crown is the electrode, which can be used in the mobile electrocardiogram prompt analysis software. Above the crown is the microphone, and the speaker is designed on the left side of the watch face.

The bottom of the dial is a regular design, and what can be seen are the metal contacts of the magnetic charging port and the indicator light of the sensor. In terms of sensors, it has all the usual sensors such as a three-axis accelerometer, gyroscope, geomagnetic sensor, ambient light sensor, barometric sensor, optical heart rate sensor, blood oxygen sensor, and ECG sensor. It is worth mentioning that the OPPO Watch 4 Pro has added a wrist temperature sensor, which can generate a baseline wrist temperature through long-term monitoring.

Compared with traditional mechanical watches, the biggest advantage of a smartwatch is its screen. The OPPO Watch 4 Pro uses a 1.91-inch square screen this time, and the curved design further enhances the viewing effect. With the support of LTPO technology, it has improved resolution and brightness, and the screen refresh rate can be dynamically adjusted. In idle mode with always-on display, the dynamic refresh rate adjustment can extend its battery life, making it very practical.

It is precisely because of this screen that the OPPO Watch 4 Pro has more diverse display content than traditional watches. Various dials can be personalized and edited, with the ability to change components, colors, and time styles. In addition, OPPO has added a third-party dial market with over 400+ dials to choose from. Whether you DIY or choose from the dial market, this design of the OPPO Watch 4 Pro allows your smartwatch to display your unique taste.

For smartwatch users, there is indescribable joy in changing straps and dials, and OPPO is well aware of this. The OPPO Watch 4 Pro adopts a quick-release design for the strap, making it very convenient for both replacement and disassembly. The one we have here is the “Dawn Brown” color, made of Italian cowhide material, retaining a top-grade leather texture. Moreover, it adopts the internationally common lug structure of mechanical watches, giving the strap more diverse choices. Changing to different materials of straps in different scenarios is not only full of technology, but also keeps you at the forefront of fashion.

This solves the problem of many people worrying about the “homogenization” of watches. Whether it is the dial or the strap, OPPO Watch 4 Pro has more personalized options. Combined with its unique curved design, it is enough to make OPPO Watch 4 Pro a fashionable item with high aesthetics.

For many smartwatch users, when the product’s appearance meets their aesthetic standards, they also hope that it can motivate them to exercise more and monitor their physical condition. Therefore, the sports monitoring capability and health detection capability of smartwatches are also important.

Let’s first look at health detection. OPPO Watch has always attached great importance to health management. It has previously collaborated with universities and research institutions to improve the professionalism of its products in the health field. Now, it has more than 35 collaborative research projects, covering various aspects such as sleep, heart rate, cardiovascular, and blood sugar. It is endorsed by authoritative institutions such as Tsinghua University, Wuhan Asia Heart Hospital, and Fuwai Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, making its detection data more reliable and trustworthy.

In terms of actual experience, OPPO Watch 4 Pro has all the basic health monitoring functions such as sleep, blood oxygen, and heart rate. After selecting the corresponding item, follow the prompts to complete the operation, and it only takes a few seconds to monitor data on items such as blood vessels, sleep, electrocardiogram, heart rate, blood oxygen, and stress, allowing you to observe your own health condition. Overall, the experience is very simple and easy to understand. As a simple health check, it is already sufficient. Of course, you can also choose real-time sleep and blood oxygen monitoring or interval monitoring in the app.

Among these functions, sleep monitoring is a feature that I use and check almost every day, because the sleep report provided by OPPO is concise and intuitive. It includes the overall quality of sleep, heart rate, blood oxygen level, respiratory rate during sleep, as well as the duration of different sleep states such as deep sleep and light sleep. It also provides a comprehensive score to evaluate sleep quality, making it not just based on subjective feelings anymore.

If the sleep quality is not good, OPPO also provides a “sleep aid” function, which uses light music and sleep-inducing tunes to help improve sleep quality. This is a very thoughtful function for people with poor sleep quality.

When I first started using the OPPO Watch 4 Pro, my average sleep score was 71. After following its suggestions and using the sleep aid music, my average sleep score improved to 79, and I could subjectively feel an improvement in my mental state.

In this OPPO Watch 4 Pro, a wrist temperature sensor has been added. For users, it needs to be worn for at least 5 days during sleep time to form a baseline wrist temperature. By analyzing the changes in wrist temperature and heart rate trends, it can analyze the changes in physical condition and provide recovery suggestions for abnormal states. For example, if there is a significant change in body temperature, it will analyze and prompt whether there is excessive fatigue, fever, thyroid function issues, etc., and provide certain recovery suggestions.

Now let’s talk about sports. OPPO has also invested a lot of effort in customizing sports modes based on self-developed algorithms. OPPO Watch 4 Pro has 11 deeply customized sports modes and supports over 100 mainstream sports detections. Popular sports apps like Keep have also been adapted, covering the needs of most users.

The classic sport of running has been optimized very well by OPPO, whether it is data statistics or analysis, it is more detailed. This time, OPPO Watch 4 Pro has added an exclusive customized badminton mode, which can record professional data such as swing count, maximum swing speed, calorie consumption, etc. For badminton enthusiasts, this feature is really “difficult to go back”.

During the use, I deeply experienced the cycling mode, and the data recording was very accurate. When drawing the cycling map, it can accurately record every time I stop to rest or wait for traffic lights, such as duration, average speed, maximum speed, energy consumption, heart rate, etc. Through these data, I can not only understand myself during cycling, but also analyze my condition and improve direction after exercise.

During the use, I also found that thanks to the support of eSIM, it can get rid of the limitations of the phone during exercise. For example, it can play music even without a phone, and after binding WeChat, it will not miss some key information. For users who are not used to exercising with a phone, this is really considerate.

In addition, during the use of OPPO Watch 4 Pro, I also discovered a Health Elf app, which is more like an electronic pet on a watch. You can accumulate “energy” through exercise to feed it and exchange different themed “skins”. It can also remind you to exercise, which increases the playability of the watch.

Whether it is health monitoring or exercise tracking, OPPO has adopted self-developed algorithms for both aspects. Through extensive research with major research institutes, this has created a significant gap between OPPO products and other smartwatches on the market in terms of health and fitness, thereby establishing its own “moat” in terms of capabilities.

When it comes to popularity of smartwatches, after having good looks and practical functions, the last hurdle is battery life. After all, in the current era of increasing smart devices, how can a product not have battery anxiety? No one wants to wear a watch that needs to be charged more frequently than their phones.

In terms of battery life, OPPO Watch has always performed well with its UDDE dual-engine hybrid technology. On the OPPO Watch 4 Pro, UDDE has entered the 3.0 era and has been deeply optimized for over 200 commonly used user scenarios. It can achieve 5 days of battery life in full smart mode, and up to 14 days in lightweight smart mode. I am already quite satisfied with this battery performance. From my experience, during weekdays, I only need to charge it occasionally while checking the health data and feeding the “pet” in the health companion app, without the need to charge for five days.

In terms of charging, it also supports VOOC flash charging. According to the official statement, 10 minutes of charging can provide a full day of use. In actual testing, it takes about an hour to fully charge. Moreover, the VOOC protocol does not require specific cables and can be activated by a regular PD protocol charger. There is no need to carry an extra data cable when going out, as it can be charged with a phone charger.

Nowadays, smartwatches have almost become another popular smart device after TWS earphones. Major brands are also competing in the field of smartwatches. In my opinion, OPPO, with its experience accumulated from previous generations, has become a very mature brand in the smartwatch market. The capabilities of the OPPO Watch 4 Pro can be considered top-notch in the Android smartwatch camp, whether it is pursuing personalization, paying attention to health and fitness monitoring, or simply using it as a decoration to receive messages when the phone is not convenient. It is a suitable choice.
