Xu Qi Some versions don’t make money, the 12 series will push imaging to new heights.
Some Versions of Xu Qi Fail to Yield Profits, but the 12 Series Promises to Elevate Imaging
【Mobile China】In the context of overall acceleration this year, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has arrived earlier than before. The first batch of new models carrying the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 were all released before the New Year, and it is quite appropriate to use the idiom “overwhelming” in this time period. Among these new models, without surprise, the realme GT5 Pro should be the last flagship with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to debut in 2023, and it has brought consumers a pleasant surprise in terms of overall configuration and price.
Although this press conference was conducted online, Xu Qi, the Vice President and China Regional President of realme, also gave an exclusive interview after the conference, discussing various topics such as products, market, prices, and future trends with the media. He also candidly stated, “The pricing is indeed extremely aggressive, and for some versions, we definitely won’t make a profit.”
I believe the pricing aspect is a topic that many people are very concerned about. Currently, the starting price for the realme GT5 Pro is 3298 yuan, which is the lowest among all models equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. The entry-level version of the realme GT5 Pro has a storage combination of 12+256, and this pricing is only closer to the Redmi K70 Pro and the Meizu 21, whose entry-level versions still have an 8+256 storage combination. Xu Qi said, “The pricing is indeed extremely aggressive. It should be said that for some versions, we definitely won’t make a profit.” Xu Qi also mentioned that there are two key points for realme: “One is that realme must implement the concept of ‘King of Quality Price Ratio’ that we are currently promoting. So, this is why we want to provide good products while ensuring competitive pricing.” “The second is that in the milestone of 200 million realme users this year, we hope to bring a product that excites users and the entire market. We have invested a lot of effort and anticipation internally for such a heavyweight product like the realme GT5 Pro, and we hope this excellent product can really make a loud voice in the market. So, our pricing this time is indeed extremely aggressive.”

Regarding the adjustment of product lines, it has been discussed in a previous group interview, but Xu Qi once again confirmed the direction. Currently, realme has three series in the domestic market: GT series, Number series, and V series. Xu Qi said, “In terms of volume, the Number and GT series will indeed be the highlights, with GT being the most important.” And the specific actions of the product line can also indicate this. It is worth noting that internally, the GT series actually has several subdivisions, such as the GT Number and the newly launched GT Number Pro. In addition, there is also the GT Neo series, which introduced 240W charging at the beginning of the year.
In an interview, Xu Qi revealed some information about the upcoming realme 11 series. He said, “Actually, from last year to this year, we have redefined the digital series. In the mid-range flagship experience and imaging, the digital series will be extremely outstanding. I have great expectations for the 12 series in the digital series. It is the most explosive machine since the birth of the digital series because this machine will take imaging to new heights and will overturn everyone’s perception of the mid-range market segment, including design and more. It’s worth looking forward to because we are also collaborating with some well-known masters.” This raised the audience’s expectations to a new level, and I wonder if the last sentence means the return of the master edition?
Afterwards, realme’s product manager, Maojin, also provided some additional information on the product line, explaining the research and development focus of realme in different series. He said that for the GT series, the focus will be on performance, imaging, and display, to meet the high demands of young users for performance, system fluency, and gaming experience. For the digital series, the focus will be on appearance and imaging investment, to meet the needs of casual users for daily use and photography.
When asked if realme will adopt the “sea of phones” strategy in the Chinese market, Xu Qi believes that if they want to expand their market share, it is one method. After realme streamlined its product line, they also put forward a boutique strategy. At least for now, “we will still be relatively restrained in launching our own products, ensuring that each product is a masterpiece.” Xu Qi also mentioned that in the future, product releases will be more paced, based on the iteration of their product line and the iteration of new technologies and chips.
When discussing the overseas market and the Chinese market, Xu Qi stated that Southeast Asia has always been a strong market for realme. In recent years, realme has consistently ranked in the top 5 in the market. Starting from 2022, realme has already become the TOP1 brand in the Philippines market. “Around the third quarter of this year, Malaysia and Vietnam were the fastest growing brands in these two markets. Currently, our development trend in the entire Southeast Asian market is still very robust, and I believe there will be further progress next year.”
Next year, realme may have some new actions in potential markets such as Latin America and the Middle East and Africa, and will focus on these two markets.
