Huawei explains complexity of slower network speed on some 5G phones
【phoneauto News】Recently, there has been a lot of concern among netizens about the poor internet speed of some 5G phones and even the suspicion of false advertising. As a global leader in the 5G field, Huawei’s knowledge may serve as a reference.
Huawei’s official website explains the question of what is SA and NSA: SA (Stand-Alone) and NSA (Non-Stand-Alone) are two networking modes of 5G. Stand-alone (SA) refers to the construction of a new 5G network, including new base stations, backhaul links, and core networks; Non-stand-alone (NSA) refers to the deployment of 5G networks using existing 4G infrastructure, where 5G carriers based on NSA architecture only carry user data, while control signaling still goes through the 4G network. In simple terms, both NSA and SA are 5G.

So why is the network speed of some 5G phones always slow? According to Huawei’s official website, there are three situations when a phone displays 5G:
The first situation is when it is connected to an anchor station. The anchor station is a 4G base station, so even though the phone shows a 5G indicator, it actually uses the 4G channel, resulting in a similar experience to 4G.
The second situation is when it is on NSA networking. The phone is simultaneously connected to an anchor station and a 5G base station, providing a noticeable improvement in speed, with an ideal scenario of reaching 800Mbps.
The third situation is when it is on SA networking. The phone is directly connected to a 5G base station, with no restrictions from 4G in terms of speed, and it can reach 1200Mbps.
In addition, due to the complexity of actual network conditions and the influence of various factors, the actual transmission speed often falls short of theoretical values.
