Future Prospects for Huawei Independence for iOS, HarmonyOS, and Android Operating Systems
【Mobile China News】Recently, there has been news that Huawei may release a non-Android compatible version of HarmonyOS next year. On November 20th, Mobile China noticed that a Huawei spokesperson told The Paper that the release time is still uncertain, and in the future, iOS, HarmonyOS, and Android will be three separate and independent operating systems. Currently, mainstream domestic apps have already started developing versions for pure HarmonyOS. The ability of the HarmonyOS ecosystem will be tested once HarmonyOS is completely incompatible with Android. Some internet users have expressed that from a programmer’s perspective, this is a good thing as developing HarmonyOS apps injects new vitality into the stagnant world of app development and allows Android developers to start transitioning to HarmonyOS development.
HarmonyOS is Huawei’s new, independent smart device operating system for the era of IoT, providing a unified language for the intelligence, interconnectedness, and collaboration of different devices. The latest HarmonyOS 4 has already surpassed 100 million upgraded devices within three months.
At the previous Huawei Autumn Full-Scene New Product Launch Event, Huawei’s Executive Director and CEO of BG, Chairman of Intelligent Automotive Solution BU, Richard Yu, delivered a speech announcing that the upcoming HarmonyOS NEXT is ready to launch and HarmonyOS native applications are fully activated. Yu Chengdong stated that this marks a new chapter in the mobile application ecosystem. Huawei has cultivated millions of HarmonyOS talents and will invest billions to support partner development, covering 18 fields of applications comprehensively, delivering a smoother, smarter, and more secure HarmonyOS native application experience for consumers.

Many people have different perspectives on the development prospects of Huawei’s HarmonyOS system no longer being compatible with Android apps. Some believe that HarmonyOS not being compatible with Android apps will cause Huawei to lose a large number of users and market share. However, there are also optimistic views. They believe that Huawei’s strength and brand influence are sufficient to drive the development of HarmonyOS. As Huawei’s own ecosystem continues to grow, the number of applications adapted to HarmonyOS will gradually increase, thereby improving the user’s application experience.
