It is reported that when the distance between the lens and the object being photographed is maintained at about 0.5 millimeters, it can magnify from 20 to 400 times. This patent also brings more extensive and innovative application scenarios for mobile phone microscope technology. On October 9th, phoneauto noticed that some digital bloggers wrote posts stating that Huawei has been researching microscope technology for a long time, and this public disclosure indicates that the technology is almost ready. They hope that the Huawei P70 or P80 can be equipped with this technology. The blogger also mentioned that microscope patent technology is actually a branch of imaging technology and is quite interesting.

The published documents show that Huawei submitted this patent application in 2021, when the world was still in the midst of a pandemic. Therefore, Huawei particularly emphasized in the patent description that it can not only be used for ordinary photography, but also directly identify the types and quantities of microorganisms (such as bacteria) in the photographed objects, and provide hygiene suggestions. The basic principle of this patent is to equip the phone with two cameras: one is a regular camera, and the other is a macro camera. First, the object’s scene and category are identified through the regular camera for photography. Then, the macro camera is used for microscopic photography, magnifying a certain object from the previous photo into microscope mode. Next, the phone will comprehensively analyze the information from the regular camera and the macro camera to accurately determine the condition of the object. Finally, it will describe the hygiene condition of the object through voice, text, etc., and provide appropriate hygiene measures suggestions.

Huawei also outlined some application scenarios in the patent, including food safety assurance, kitchen utensil maintenance, personal hygiene assessment, dining table cleanliness, children’s toy inspection, and pet hygiene monitoring, etc.
