Is Tesla about to reach 5 million vehicle deliveries, catching up with BYD?

【phoneauto News】Recently, phoneauto noticed that, according to relevant sources, Tesla is expected to deliver its five millionth car in the next 4-6 weeks. Currently, BYD is the first company in the world to produce five million new energy vehicles, with the Tengshi N7 being the relevant model. However, BYD’s five million vehicles should include hybrid cars. Tesla, on the other hand, does not manufacture hybrid cars, so it is expected to become the first company in the world to produce five million pure electric vehicles.

Currently, Tesla has five main models on sale, namely the Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model X, Model S, and Cybertruck. Among them, the Tesla Model 3 is the cheapest model, with a starting price of around 230,000 yuan in the Chinese market. The Tesla Model Y is the best-selling model. In 2022, even when considering fuel-powered models, the Tesla Model Y has the highest global sales. Tesla’s Cybertruck is also very popular, with pre-orders reaching 1,943,876 units by mid-July 2023, equivalent to pre-order revenue exceeding 194 million USD (approximately 1.41 billion yuan). Currently, it is unclear which model will be Tesla’s five millionth electric vehicle.

It is worth mentioning that there are reports that the new Tesla Model 3 has completed the “trial production phase” and production ramp-up and stress testing will begin on August 25th. The car will remove all radar systems, significantly reducing manufacturing costs, and is expected to be priced at around 200,000 yuan.
