Indian Smartphone Market Update Samsung Retains Top Spot, Domestic Manufacturers Close in on Rivalry
[Mobile China News] According to the latest report from International Data Corporation (IDC), the Indian smartphone market remained flat year-on-year in the third quarter of 2023, with a shipment volume of 44 million units. Among them, the shipment volume in September reached its lowest level since 2019, due to reduced demand and rising device prices. In addition, the average selling price (ASP) in the third quarter reached $253, a 12% year-on-year increase and a 5% increase compared to the previous quarter. In terms of market share brand rankings, Samsung took the first place, while other domestic smartphone manufacturers formed a “surrounding force”.

Although the shipment volume decreased year-on-year, Samsung had the highest average selling price among the top five brands, reaching $381, a 43% year-on-year increase. realme ranked second, with a 6.5% year-on-year increase in shipment volume and a market share growth from 14.2% in the third quarter of 2022 to 15.1% in the third quarter of 2023.

Among the top five brands on the list, vivo ranked third with the highest year-on-year growth rate of 13.7%. Xiaomi and OPPO had the highest year-on-year decline, reaching -32.4% and -20.2%, respectively. However, the report pointed out that OnePlus and Xiaomi’s sub-brand POCO had the fastest growth, with year-on-year increases of 50.1% and 50.8% respectively. Apple’s shipment volume increased by 10.8% year-on-year, expanding its market share from 5% in the third quarter of 2022 to 5.5% in the third quarter of 2023.
Mobile China also learned that the foldable smartphone market in India has achieved significant growth, with a shipment of 500,000 units in the third quarter. This segment market is led by Samsung, accounting for 60% of the market share. In addition, the highest shipment volume of 5G smartphones in the quarter included the Samsung A14, Apple iPhone 13, and Redmi 12.
