The Huawei Mate 60 launch event is taking place in northern Myanmar? It turned out to be a joke, made me laugh
The Huawei Mate 60 launch event in northern Myanmar? Just a joke, made me laugh
【Phoneauto News】Recently, there have been increasing rumors online about Huawei’s autumn product launch event, which is likely to take place on September 12th. Interestingly, on August 22nd, many users reported receiving invitation texts for the Huawei Mate60 launch event. The text messages stated that the Huawei Mate60 series launch event would be held in northern Myanmar, with travel expenses reimbursed. This seems a bit suspicious!
The message reads: “【Huawei】Congratulations! You have been selected to participate in the HUAWEI Mate60 series launch event on September 12th. You can receive a free Mate60Pro5G prototype (random color, 256GB) on the day of the event. Please fill out and submit your identity information on the website https://consumer.huawei.com/cn/ before August 31st, and arrive at the reception hall on the third floor of the Sibai Hotel in the northern ethnic special zone of Myanmar before 5 pm on September 11th. We hope you can arrange your trip properly and keep the relevant receipts for reimbursement of travel expenses. Reply TD to unsubscribe!”

At first glance, this message seems official and legitimate, but upon closer inspection, it is full of loopholes. Firstly, the Huawei Mate60 series is not expected to support 5G. Although there have been many rumors about Huawei’s return to 5G smartphones, the information does not indicate that it will be the Mate60 series. It is very likely that the Mate60 series is still not a 5G phone;
Secondly, looking back at Huawei’s previous launch events, they have mostly been held in Munich, Shanghai, and other places. Why would they suddenly hold a launch event in northern Myanmar? Furthermore, the Huawei Mate50 series launch event was also held in China;
In addition, does Huawei randomly select lucky viewers for their launch events? It is understood that phone manufacturers usually invite industry professionals and relevant media to attend their launch events, and they may select some fans to attend, but it is not done by randomly sending out text messages and selecting winners;
Finally, it is also highly suspicious that you can receive a free Mate60 Pro 5G prototype when attending the press conference. While smartphone manufacturers may give out some souvenirs, it is rare for them to directly give away phones.
In summary, this text message is clearly fake and full of loopholes. Considering the recent attention on northern Myanmar, it cannot be ruled out that this might be a scammer exploiting Huawei’s reputation or simply a prank.
