According to foreign media reports, Honor plans to resume smartphone production in India starting early next year. Honor’s return to India is due to a licensing agreement with the newly established Gurugram company, Honor Tech, which involves the transfer of technology and hardware but does not disclose the “agreed cost.”
It is understood that the company is fully owned by local shareholders and will manufacture, sell, and service Honor-branded smartphones in India. Three new models are set to be launched, with the mid-range Number series expected to debut in September. Madhav Sheth, the CEO of the company, said, “All phones will eventually be manufactured in India,” but did not disclose further details.
According to supply chain sources, due to the impact of import tariffs in India and the production incentives of the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme to support the development of the electronic manufacturing industry, Honor’s smartphones sold in India will be mainly assembled by its largest ODM supplier, Wingtech Technology, in India. The speculated time for the product launch is in the third quarter.
