Wang Teng Learning to Effectively Package Combat Reports from Friendly Competitors Is Essential -Blog Post by Lei Jun
【Mobile China News】On December 11th, Wang Teng, the general manager of Redmi and spokesperson of the brand, posted on Weibo: “K70 series report, 600,000 units sold in 5 minutes. It seems like it’s not impressive enough, maybe we should learn from our competitors how to add more adjectives and repackage it.”

Although Wang Teng didn’t explicitly mention which “competitors” he was referring to, December 11th was the day when OnePlus 12 started its first sale. Earlier, Li Jie, the president of OnePlus China, released the first sales report of OnePlus 12, showing that the sales far exceeded expectations. It achieved the second highest sales and revenue on both JD.com and Tmall platforms within the first 5 minutes of sales for the third generation Snapdragon 8 chipset models. In addition, the sales of OnePlus 12 in the first 5 minutes accounted for 61% of the total sales of the competitor’s 14 Pro throughout the day.

- Li Jie OnePlus 12 first sold out in 5 minutes, accounting for 61% of the total sales of the rival 14 Pro throughout the day.
For reference, Xiaomi’s first sales report showed that within the first 5 minutes of Xiaomi 14 series going on sale, the sales had increased sixfold compared to the previous generation. Xiaomi also broke the records for “first-day sales and revenue” on the four major platforms of Tmall, JD.com, Douyin, and Kuaishou that any domestic smartphone brand achieved within the past year. On November 7th, Lei Jun, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi, revealed in an interaction with netizens that the sales of Xiaomi 14 series had already exceeded one million units. Lei Jun said, “Indeed, it has surpassed one million units, but the shortage is still severe. We are urgently pushing for more supply, please be patient.”

Earlier today, BCI released the latest data on the Chinese mobile phone market. The data showed that in November, Xiaomi rose to the top spot among domestic brands with a market share of 18.3%, while Apple ranked first with a 21.1% market share. In the 4K+ market segment, both Huawei and Xiaomi saw significant increase in market share, while Apple’s market share declined by 21.2%. Xiaomi, Huawei, and Apple are racing ahead of other brands, leaving them behind. The domestically produced high-end products, Xiaomi 14 and Huawei Mate60, are shaking the once unshakeable high-end position of the iPhone.

It is worth mentioning that Lei Jun just retweeted the Weibo post and said, “Xiaomi 14 series has good word-of-mouth, so naturally the sales are good. Just recommending it again!” This seems to be a response to the “competitors”.
