Xiaomi's car patent, which focuses on the rear structure and gull-wing doors, has been made public

【Phoneauto News】Since Xiaomi officially joined the car-making army, there have been numerous leaks and spy shots related to Xiaomi’s cars. According to Lei Jun, the chairman of Xiaomi Group, Xiaomi’s first car is expected to debut in the first half of 2024. As the time approaches, more and more related news and leaks have surfaced.

Recently, Xiaomi Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. publicly disclosed a patent for the rear structure of a car body and a gull-wing door vehicle. The patent was filed on May 26, 2023, and published on September 8, 2023. The inventor is Zhang Dawei.

According to the patent summary on Qichacha, this disclosure relates to a rear structure of a car body and a gull-wing door vehicle. The rear structure of the car body includes a hinge mechanism, rear doors, and reinforcement plates for the rear floor inner wheel arches. The hinge mechanism includes hinge seats and rotating arms. The hinge seats are connected to the reinforcement plates for the rear floor inner wheel arches, and the rotating arms are rotatably connected to the hinge seats and connected to the rear doors.

By connecting the hinge seats to the reinforcement plates for the rear floor inner wheel arches, there is no need to reserve space on the C-pillar, nor does it increase the size of the C-pillar, thereby avoiding restrictions on the design seams. Secondly, by setting the hinge seats in the reinforcement plates for the rear floor inner wheel arches, it can effectively meet the installation strength and rigidity requirements of the rear doors. In addition, by setting the hinge seats in the reinforcement plates for the rear floor inner wheel arches, the dimensions of the rear door opening in the front-to-back direction are not affected, and there is no need to increase the vehicle’s wheelbase to meet the ingress and egress requirements.

From the effect of this patent, it seems that the wheelbase of Xiaomi’s first vehicle will not be too large. So, do you have a positive outlook on the future of Xiaomi’s car? Please feel free to leave your comments below for discussion.
