The processor used in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro is called A17 Pro internally at Apple, while the A18 processor used in next year’s iPhone 16 Pro is codenamed Tahiti internally at Apple, and it will still be manufactured using the 3nm process. From the change in naming, the performance of the A18 is likely to be only a marginal improvement compared to the A17 Pro.

According to MacRumors, a report by Jeff Pu, an analyst at Haitong International Securities, also mentioned that the A17 Pro and A18 Bionic chips in the iPhone 16 series next year will be manufactured using TSMC’s N3E process. As for the performance of the A18, it should be an improvement over the A17 Pro.

The A17 Pro is Apple’s first SoC manufactured using the 3nm process, and it is also the most powerful smartphone chip in Apple’s history. It has undergone microarchitecture improvements and provides more powerful performance than the A16, with a peak performance increase of 20%.
