Apple plans to make India its global iPhone factory, according to foreign media
【Phoneauto News】Recently, foreign media reported that Apple plans to build India into the “world’s iPhone factory”.
In the report, foreign media wrote that the pandemic has changed the world in fundamentally different ways. Although the direct impact has largely disappeared, it has greatly changed our habits. For example, working from home was rare in the past, but now it is popular. However, these changes not only affect ordinary people, but also affect China, the center of the pandemic, causing production issues. The report states that many companies have decided to transfer some of their manufacturing operations to other countries to avoid future problems. Apple is one of them, and it has invested a large amount of money in India. According to recent news, Apple hopes to do more in India, such as planning to increase the production of domestic components in India.

Phoneauto has reported that Apple is seeking to expand its component production scale in India. The iPhone manufacturer shared the details of its plans at a meeting with senior officials from the Ministry of Finance. An official stated that Apple is interested in increasing its base of Indian components and is actively seeking ways to achieve this goal.
Although the Indian government is unwilling to provide any tax incentives to Apple, the company is still interested in investing in India. The official mentioned above stated that Apple hopes to “achieve localization faster” and “eager to expand its domestic component manufacturing base in India”. This can be seen as part of Apple’s strategy to diversify its supply chain beyond China.
Foreign media pointed out that most of Apple’s suppliers are located in China, and the company has been seeking to reduce its dependence on Chinese suppliers in recent years. Apple has been producing iPhones in India since 2017, and currently about 7% of iPhones are produced in India, with this number expected to increase in the coming years.
