Morning News Apple to Open Third-party App Store in Europe, Xiaomi 14 Sold Out
Apple's Latest Venture Third-Party App Store in Europe, Xiaomi 14 Sells Out in Morning News
【Phone China Morning Post】Due to Apple’s 30% commission, Apple’s monopoly on the App Store has attracted investigations from many countries. However, due to the requirements of new EU regulations, Apple will have to allow the appearance of third-party app stores in Europe by 2024. The unexpected success of Xiaomi 14, the latest flagship of Xiaomi, has surprised many people. Recently, Xiaomi officially announced the sales performance during Xiaomi’s Double 11.
Apple’s latest financial documents show that the company is expected to be forced to allow third-party app stores to be used in various parts of Europe starting from 2024.

In Apple’s 10-K form, it stated, “The company expects to make further business changes in the future, including legislation measures that affect the App Store, such as the ‘EU Digital Markets Act’, which the company must comply with by March 2024. Future changes may also affect the fees the company charges developers to access its platform, how it manages app distribution outside of the App Store, and to what extent it allows developers to communicate with consumers within the App Store regarding alternative purchasing mechanisms.”
Overall, opening third-party app stores may reduce app downloads, and the commission Apple receives from these sales will decrease. Apple stated that if the commission it receives from App Store sales decreases, the company’s business, operating performance, and financial condition may be significantly adversely affected.

According to the report from the Korean newspaper “Chosun Daily,” LG and Samsung are planning to start mass production of OLED display panels for the next generation of iPad Pro models in February 2024.
Mark Gurman from Bloomberg predicts that Apple will launch 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models equipped with OLED displays, M3 chips, and aluminum Magic Keyboard next year. It is reported that the mass production of OLED displays for the new iPad Pro will start in February, so it seems unlikely that the next generation iPad Pro models will be released in March, which is a common month for Apple to announce new products. The next generation iPad Pro models are more likely to be released at WWDC in June or later, but Apple’s plans could still change.
