Qualcomm's self-developed CPU architecture project has been delayed by half a year
【Phoneauto News】There have been reports that Qualcomm has been developing a Snapdragon mobile platform using its self-developed Nuvia CPU architecture. However, the latest news indicates that the progress of Qualcomm’s Nuvia second-generation has been paused, with an internal delay of six months.
It is understood that Snapdragon 8 Gen3 will continue to use the Arm reference architecture, while Snapdragon 8 Gen4 will officially depart from the Arm architecture and adopt Qualcomm’s self-developed Nuvia architecture for the first time. It is expected that Snapdragon 8 Gen4 will adopt a new dual-cluster eight-core CPU architecture scheme, including 2 Nuvia Phoenix performance cores and 6 Nuvia Phoenix M cores. In addition, this chip may also have multiple versions, with the high-end version having 12 cores, including 8 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores.

According to previous reports, Qualcomm’s new high-performance chip is already in the research and testing stage and making smooth progress. However, the latest news suggests that Qualcomm has paused the development of this chip, which is quite confusing.
Although this self-developed project is not a complete failure, with competitors Huawei and Samsung returning to the market with their own smartphone processors, as well as Apple’s continued development of its powerful A-series processors, Qualcomm’s future business will become increasingly challenging, and even next year’s business may not be good.
Analysts predict that starting from 2024, Huawei will completely stop purchasing Qualcomm chips, and the upcoming new models will use their own newly designed Kirin processor, namely Kirin 9000S.
