Inventory of Android phone features borrowed by iPhone 15 Who is better?
Who borrowed features from whom between iPhone 15 and Android phones?
[phoneauto] How should I put it, the “reference” of the mobile phone industry has become an unavoidable topic for industry development. From appearance to UI, from Android to iOS, there is “mutual reference” and mutual improvement, ultimately promoting the progress and development of the entire industry. For a long time before, Android phone manufacturers have been chasing after Apple’s footsteps to “copy homework”, but until today, Apple has also started reverse “reference” mode.
In the early morning of September 13th Beijing time, Apple held a new product launch event and launched the highly anticipated new generation iPhone 15 series. Some of the new features of this series have already been applied on Android phones.
For a long time in the past, Apple would equip its phones with a slide-to-mute button, which has received a lot of praise from users. Now, on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple has redesigned the mute button, changing it from a sliding design to a press design. Apple calls it the Action button.

It is reported that the function of this “mute button” is not only limited to mute. Users can customize it to assign more functions, such as opening the voice recorder, opening the camera, etc.
An Action button with high customization, does it sound familiar? In fact, it is a multifunctional shortcut button, which is not uncommon in the Android camp.
Speaking of shortcut buttons, the most common one in the early Android camp was the camera shutter button. Sony, LG, and Samsung have all done similar solutions, among which Sony still insists on this excellent tradition. Even in the latest Xperia flagship models, it still has a good feel independent camera shutter button. Sony keeps the camera shutter button, naturally related to the matching “Movie Master” and “Photography Master” two professional-level software. With one click, it can quickly enter the “combat state” of shooting.
iPhone 15 series adopts a 48 million pixel main camera, which can take ultra-high-resolution HEIF photos with a default resolution of 48MP. iPhone 15 Pro offers up to 3x optical zoom, the same as the previous generation, while 15 Pro Max has received a major upgrade. As rumored, it is equipped with a foldable telephoto lens for the first time in iPhone history, with optical zoom up to 5x.
Foldable telephoto cameras are certainly not unfamiliar to those familiar with the digital circle. Most smartphone manufacturers use them as selling points when releasing new phones, including Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, vivo, Samsung, and other major manufacturers. At least they have already adopted telephoto lenses with high magnification optical zoom on their flagship phones.
Do you remember the Huawei P30 Pro, the phone that made a name for itself in the Ferris wheel incident back then? It was also the world’s first phone to feature a periscope telephoto lens.
In its 11th year of birth, Apple’s Lightning interface is becoming history. The latest iPhone 15 series adopts the USB-C interface. Interestingly, iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus still use the USB 2.0 specification interface. Apple claims that its transmission speed can reach up to 480Mb/s. As a phone priced at nearly 6,000 yuan, this speed is indeed a bit unsatisfactory.
Previously, Xiaomi was criticized by many Xiaomi users for using the “ancestral” USB 2.0 interface. However, on the subsequent Xiaomi 13 Ultra, Xiaomi also made a “painful reform” and used the new USB 3.0, which greatly improved the transmission speed compared to 2.0.
The use of USB-C interface on Android phones can be traced back to 2014, when some phone manufacturers began to experiment with this new interface. By 2015, as more smartphone brands started adopting the USB-C interface, it became popular on Android phones. Before this, the Micro USB interface on Android devices could not be inserted in both orientations, while the USB-C interface allows for convenient reversible insertion.
The Apple Vision Pro was launched this year, and Apple introduced the so-called “Spatial Video” to the iPhone 15 Pro series. The so-called “Spatial Video” is actually somewhat similar to the 3D videos commonly seen on Android phones.
The support for 3D videos on Android phones dates back to 2010 when Sharp released the first smartphone that supported glasses-free 3D technology, the Sharp SH-01D. This phone allowed users to watch 3D movies and images through a dedicated 3D video player, but it required users to wear specially designed 3D glasses.
With the continuous development of 3D technology and the increasing popularity of smartphones, more and more Android phones began to support 3D video playback. Many Android phone manufacturers started to integrate 3D players or applications into their phones, allowing users to watch 3D movies and videos anytime, anywhere. These applications usually support various 3D formats, such as red-blue 3D, side-by-side 3D, etc.
In addition to the release of the iPhone 15 series at Apple’s autumn new product launch event, Apple also officially debuted the all-new processor, the A17 Pro. Compared to the previous generation A16, the A17 Pro processor’s manufacturing process has been upgraded from TSMC’s 4nm to TSMC’s 3nm, with the number of transistors increasing from 16 billion to 19 billion. The CPU cores are still divided into 2 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, with some microarchitecture improvements.
Among them, the performance core has improved branch prediction, increased the width of the decode and execution engines, claiming to increase speed by 10%, while the efficiency core claims to be the most energy-efficient mobile CPU core, claiming to be three times that of competing products. The neural engine core remains at 16, but the computing power has almost doubled from 17 TOPS to 35 TOPS. The independent video engine and display controller natively support AV1 video hardware decoding for the first time.
As early as 2020, MediaTek released the Dimensity 1000 series 5G mobile chip, which was the first to support the AV1 video encoding format worldwide. It uses the ARM A77 CPU and G77 GPU, combined with the independent AI processor APU3.0 and powerful ISP, providing strong performance for AV1 video decoding.
In addition, the A17 Pro chip also supports hardware-level ray tracing technology for the first time, bringing more realistic lighting and shadow effects to games and rendering. Ray tracing technology is a new type of graphics rendering technology that simulates the physical behavior of light to construct lighting scenes in game graphics and optimize reflection, refraction, shadows, and other image effects, thereby presenting more realistic lighting and shadow effects in game scenes.
Android phones began to support ray tracing around 2021. At that time, OPPO demonstrated mobile ray tracing technology based on the Vulkan API at a developer conference, stating that the technology could achieve prototyping and improve the visual experience on mobile platforms. Subsequently, vivo officially released mobile ray tracing technology based on flagship chips on its latest flagship X90 series, achieving the highly anticipated evolution of SoC chips and GPUs, making it possible for mobile phone users to experience ray tracing in major games on mobile devices.
Generally speaking, “learning from” is not a derogatory term, but a positive phenomenon. Only by continuously learning and innovating can mobile phone manufacturers establish an unbeatable position in this fiercely competitive market.
