Guo Mingqi Qualcomm is the main loser, SoC shipments will be reduced by 60 million units next year
Guo Mingqi predicts Qualcomm will lose 60 million SoC shipments next year
【Phoneauto News】Recently, well-known analyst Guo Mingji released another analysis report, stating that Qualcomm is the main loser in Huawei’s adoption of the new Kirin chip.
The article states that due to Huawei’s adoption of the new Kirin processor, it is expected that Qualcomm’s SoC shipments to Chinese smartphone brands in 2024 will decrease by at least 50-60 million compared to 2023, and will continue to decline annually.
Guo Mingji’s analysis states that Huawei purchased 23-25 million and 40-42 million mobile SoCs from Qualcomm in 2022 and 2023, respectively. However, starting from 2024, it is expected that Huawei’s new models will fully adopt its self-developed Kirin processors. Therefore, starting from 2024, Qualcomm will not only lose Huawei’s orders completely, but also face the risk of decreased shipments to non-Huawei Chinese brand customers due to competition from Huawei.

He also mentioned that Qualcomm is likely to start a price war in the fourth quarter of 2023 to maintain its market share in China, which will be unfavorable for profits. Qualcomm faces two other potential risks: Exynos 2400’s market share in Samsung phones being higher than expected, and Apple’s expected use of its own modem chips starting from 2025.
Previously, Guo Mingji released predictions, expressing optimism about the Huawei Mate60 series. He stated that the demand for the Huawei Mate60 Pro has been strong since its release on August 29th, and the shipment plan for the second half of 2023 has increased by about 20% to 5.5-6 million units. The cumulative shipment volume after 12 months of release is expected to reach at least 12 million units.
