Ren Zhengfei emphasized that Huawei should establish its own high-end talent reserve pool and welcome outstanding talents to join, including professionals outside the border. Huawei will continue to explore and reserve talents in the assumed direction, without reserving dollars, and ultimately form its own talent pool. Management cadres need to follow the path of practical growth, and the company needs to create a tolerant environment for everyone to speak freely and allow outstanding talents to emerge.

In his speech at the benchmarking meeting of the high-end technical talent utilization working group, Ren Zhengfei mainly emphasized the following points:

The company has made it clear that we must strive to lead the world within a limited scope of business, not in an all-round manner. Therefore, the boundaries of our products are shrinking, and the boundaries of research can be appropriately widened, but not boundlessly. Therefore, when recruiting, we must first define a business boundary and clarify what our ideals and boundaries are.

At the same time, Ren Zhengfei also stated that Huawei should establish its own high-end talent reserve pool, and as long as they are outstanding talents, they can enter. Huawei reserves talents, not dollars, and ultimately reserves its own talent pool. However, Ren Zhengfei also stated that high-end talents only refer to technical aspects, and management or other industries are not included. Management cadres follow the path of vertical circulation and gradually grow in practice. Without the accumulation of layers of successful practical experience, it is difficult to have the possibility of promotion out of turn.

How to retain outstanding talents? Ren Zhengfei believes that material incentives are not the most important thing. The first point should be that they can find a position they love, and when they love it, they will work diligently. If their interests and hobbies are combined with job opportunities, they will have no regrets. Therefore, we should attach importance to the performance of these talents in their work positions, and also evaluate them based on their contributions.

Ren Zhengfei said that an all-rounder must first be a specialist, and an all-rounder grows from being a specialist. Leaders grow naturally, we don’t go looking for them. Huawei has always implemented a selection system because talent is not developed but grown by themselves. We need to create an environment for talent growth.
