Toyota Joins Forces with Tesla in NACS Alliance, Following a Heartfelt Invitation from Musk on Twitter
【PhoneAuto News】On October 20th, Tesla announced that Toyota and Lexus will be the two new adopters of the North American Charging Standard (NACS).
Currently, several major automakers including Ford, General Motors, Honda, BMW, and Rivian have already adopted Tesla’s NACS connector. Now, Toyota and Lexus have also chosen the same approach, allowing electric vehicle drivers in North America to have more charging options through Tesla’s Supercharger network.
Toyota stated that starting in 2025, “certain Toyota and Lexus BEVs will be equipped with NACS interface, including new three-row battery electric vehicle models assembled at the Toyota production plant in Kentucky.”
- LS6, Zhi Ji’s latest model, has locked in over ten thousand pre-orders within a week since its release! It is priced between 229,900 to 291,900 yuan.
- The romance engraved in the Huawei people’s bones, the Huawei Mate 9 interprets the ambition of soaring for thousands of miles.
- Foreign media Tesla’s entry-level model, Model 2, will be released in 2025.
To be a part of the Tesla “NACS Alliance,” Toyota will start this collaboration in 2025, one year later than Ford and General Motors adopting the standard. The latter will gain access to the Tesla Supercharger network in the spring of 2024. Customers with Toyota and Lexus electric vehicles equipped with the CCS interface, whether owned or leased, will receive an adapter in 2025 to enable the use of the NACS interface.
Toyota stated, “Whether at home or in public places, we are committed to providing a seamless charging experience and convenience wherever our customers choose to charge. Through the Toyota and Lexus apps, customers will have access to an extensive charging network, including over 84,000 charging ports in North America, including Level 2 and DC fast chargers. With NACS, customers will have more charging options, particularly DC fast chargers, giving them more confidence to travel to more destinations.”
It is worth mentioning that previously, Tesla CEO Elon Musk even tweeted an invitation to Toyota to adopt the Tesla NACS charging standard. Earlier, netizens complained on Twitter that the charging speed of the Toyota bZ4X was slow, taking about 3 hours to charge for a round trip between New York and the Washington area, while under the same circumstances, the Model Y only took about 30 minutes. Musk retweeted and stated that Toyota should join the Tesla North American charging standard.
Musk encouraged Toyota to join the NACS standard, calling the charging experience of the Toyota bZ4X “extremely slow.” “They should join the NACS Alliance!” Musk said.
