Japanese automakers are accelerating their exit as the latest data shows a sharp decline in the sales of fuel-powered vehicles in China

Japanese automakers are quickly leaving the market due to a significant drop in fuel-powered vehicle sales in China

【Phoneauto News】Recently, Phoneauto noticed that based on the retail data of passenger car terminals, a related institution has compiled the TOP 20 brands of fuel vehicle sales in China for the 37th week of 2023, from September 4th to September 10th (excluding imported vehicle data). First of all, looking at the overall situation, the total sales of fuel vehicles in China for that week was 215,000 units, a decrease of approximately 27.3% compared to the previous week.

Currently, the top twenty automobile brands with the highest sales of fuel vehicles in China are Volkswagen, Toyota, Honda, Geely, Changan, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW, Nissan, Chery, Haval, Buick, GAC Trumpchi, Hongqi, Jetour, Wuling, Hyundai, Ford, Lynk & Co, and Changan Oushang. Among them, Volkswagen has the highest sales volume, with a weekly sales volume of 33,500 units, but it decreased by 21.2% compared to the previous week; Toyota’s weekly sales volume is 22,800 units, a decrease of 39.9% compared to the previous week; Honda’s sales volume is 17,100 units, a decrease of 33.1% compared to the previous week. At the same time, the fuel vehicle sales of these twenty brands on the list have all declined, with no brand experiencing an increase. The brand with the smallest decrease in sales volume is Wuling, with a decrease of 5%.

It is worth mentioning that previously, research institutions pointed out that in the current Chinese market, brands that sell vehicles through imports are facing tremendous pressure under the situation of continuous decline in fuel vehicle sales. Due to the failure to quickly launch new energy vehicle models that meet market demand, the sales situation of these brands continues to deteriorate. Predictions indicate that at least two Japanese brands may choose to withdraw from the Chinese market.
