Nissan to Invest $1.4 Billion in UK for Production of Two Electric Cars

【PhoneAuto News】Nissan announced on Friday that it will invest £1.12 billion (approximately $1.4 billion) in its UK factory to produce electric versions of the popular crossover models Qashqai and Juke. This will provide a new boost to the UK automotive industry’s transition towards electrification.

Nissan stated that this plan will require an investment of up to £2 billion in a third battery factory and infrastructure projects in the UK. They also mentioned that they will announce the names of the new electric models and their production timeline at a later stage.

Nissan’s CEO, Mr. Makoto Uchida, stated in a declaration, “With the introduction of the electric versions of our core models in Europe, we are accelerating towards a new era of Nissan.”

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also expressed, “This investment is a huge vote of confidence in the UK automotive industry. Making the UK the best place to do business has been at the heart of our economic plans.”

Nissan plans to only offer fully electric vehicles in the European region by 2030. Earlier this year, Nissan raised its targets for electric vehicles, aiming to catch up in the market dominated by newcomers like Tesla. They also stated that they will introduce 19 new electric models before 2030.
