Stimulated by Huawei’s foldable phone, Samsung’s main focus for next year’s foldable phone is ‘thin’.
Huawei's Foldable Phone Inspires Samsung's Focus for Thinner Foldable Phone in the Upcoming Year
【Mobile China News】According to Korean media reports, Samsung Electronics plans to make its foldable phone thinner than this year’s model when it is released next year. This year, Huawei launched a foldable phone with a larger battery capacity than Samsung’s, so Samsung Electronics must come up with countermeasures.
Huawei Mate X5
The thickness of Samsung’s foldable phone Galaxy Z Fold5, released this year, is 13.4mm. The Mate X3, released by Huawei in April, has a thickness of 11.8mm, and the Mate X5, released in September, has a thickness of 11.1mm. Compared to the 8.25mm thickness of this year’s flat-screen smartphone, the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max, the Galaxy Z Fold5 is 1.6 times thicker, and the Mate X5 is 1.3 times thicker. The thickness of Xiaomi’s foldable phone MIX Fold 3, released in August, is 10.9mm. Huawei’s foldable phone is thinner than Samsung Electronics’ product but has a larger battery capacity. The Galaxy Z Fold5 has a battery capacity of 4400mAh, while the Mate X3 has 4800mAh, and the Mate X5 has 5060mAh. The battery capacity of the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 is 4800mAh.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5
- Foreign media ‘strongly recommend’ the first folding phone from OnePlus it is a global competitor to Samsung.
- 100W+16GB+1TB mobile phone for only 1800 yuan, this cost performance is simply brutal.
- Up to a maximum discount of 400 yuan! Xiaomi various models have been reduced in price to welcome the arrival of Double Eleven.
However, it is reported that the durability of Huawei’s Mate X3, Mate X5, and hinge products is not as good as that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5. As the leader in the foldable phone market, Samsung is expected to try to show different changes in next year’s new models compared to this year’s models. An industry insider said, “Huawei’s new product is the result of their utmost efforts,” and “Samsung must be frustrated because the Galaxy Z Fold5 has hardly improved compared to its predecessor.” It is reported that Samsung’s target for foldable phone shipments next year is 20 million units. This year, Samsung Electronics expects to ship a total of 10 million foldable phones, including 3 million previously released foldable phones and 7 million Galaxy Z5 series phones. Samsung’s originally planned shipment target for foldable phones this year was 16 million units. It is understood that in the current economic downturn, the inventory of the Galaxy Z5 series has exceeded the optimal inventory level of 8 weeks.
