【Phoneauto News】On the evening of August 14th at 7 o’clock, Xiaomi will hold the fourth annual speech by Lei Jun and the release event for the new Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 smartphone. On August 10th, 4 days before the event, Xiaomi continued to build anticipation for the new device, stating that the hinge is the core technology of foldable screens. The Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 will adopt a dragonbone hinge, which is a brand new design that combines lightweight folding and flagship features.

According to official information, Xiaomi’s dragonbone hinge features a 3-level linkage hinge with 14 active joints and 198 hinge components. It utilizes a seamless design hinge floating plate, greatly improving the screen flatness. In the unfolded state, it is 8.6% thinner, and in the folded state, it is 12.5% thinner. The width of the hinge is reduced by 8%, and the space in the hinge area is reduced by 17%.

In summary, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 with the dragonbone hinge already matches conventional flagship devices in terms of slimness. This is the second horizontally folding screen phone to achieve this, following the previous release of the Magic V2 by Honor. The Magic V2 utilizes the new generation Honor self-developed Luban titanium gold hinge, with a thickness of 4.7mm when unfolded and 9.9mm when folded, and a weight as low as 231g.

In regards to this, Lei Jun mentioned that the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 will completely overturn the existing technological path in the industry and achieve “technology changes space” through revolutionary hinge innovation, combining lightweight folding and true flagship features. Currently, the appearance design of the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 has been revealed. Besides being lightweight, the most eye-catching feature is undoubtedly the quad-camera setup on the back, with the four cameras arranged in a square. It is expected to include a 3.2x portrait medium-focus lens, a 5x periscope telephoto lens, and a 50-megapixel Sony IMX989 one-inch main camera, the same as the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, with the Leica logo on the right.
