Jeep recalls over 340,000 SUVs, including Grand Cherokee and Compass, due to software issues

Jeep recalls 340,000+ SUVs (Grand Cherokee, Compass) for software issues

【Phoneauto News】Recently, Stellantis, the parent company of the Jeep brand, announced a recall of over 340,000 Jeep brand SUVs.

According to foreign media reports, Jeep has initiated two recalls due to software issues. In the first recall, there is a software malfunction in the rearview camera system (known as the Central Vision Processing/Parking Assist Module) of certain Jeep models. This vulnerability will cause the camera image to not display properly on the screen and render the system unusable. This issue affects a total of 162,713 vehicles, including the 2022-2023 Grand Cherokee, 2021-2023 Grand Cherokee L, 2022-2024 Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer models. According to the NHTSA report, Jeep believes that all recall populations are affected by this issue.

The second recall is also related to software system malfunctions. According to the NHTSA recall report, a total of 181,999 2022 and 2023 Jeep Compass vehicles are affected by a software problem with the body control module, which prevents them from adjusting the brightness display on the instrument panel. In some extreme cases, the vehicle’s driver may be unable to correctly read data.

Jeep stated that both recalls will involve software updates at dealerships, and Jeep will begin sending notifications to customers starting from October 3rd. If Jeep switches to OTA upgrades, this problem would not be so troublesome.

For Jeep, this series of recalls in recent times has brought significant troubles to the company and has been the most headache-inducing issue recently. Previously, Jeep had recalled over 330,000 SUVs due to suspension problems, safety navigation problems, and steering column issues. These recalls not only bring considerable repair cost pressures to Jeep but also have an impact on the quality and reputation of the vehicles.
