Newest Indian Smartphone Market Rankings Four Chinese Brands Make Top Five
【Mobile China News】According to Mobile China, Canalys’ latest research shows that the shipment volume of the Indian smartphone market reached 43 million units in the third quarter of 2023 as the market gradually recovers. Although the shipment volume has declined by 3% compared to the previous year, the consumer environment improved this quarter. In terms of brand rankings, four out of the top five are Chinese brands, such as Xiaomi and OPPO.
Samsung maintained its first position in the third quarter with an 18% market share and 7.9 million shipments. Xiaomi rose to second place with 7.6 million units shipped, mainly benefiting from the release of its affordable 5G models. vivo ranked third with 7.2 million units shipped, while realme and OPPO (excluding OnePlus) ranked in the top five with 5.8 million and 4.4 million units shipped, respectively.

In the third quarter, the demand for entry-level market increased significantly as major manufacturers launched 5G models targeting the mass market. In addition, brands such as Motorola have driven sales with affordable new 5G phones as the market steadily transitions to supporting 5G smartphones. On the other hand, the high-end market continues to experience strong growth. During the holiday promotion period, Samsung’s S23 series and Apple’s iPhone 14, iPhone 13, and other previous-generation models were launched at attractive prices, driving this growth.
Sanyam Chaurasia, Senior Analyst at Canalys, said, “Although the sales volume of the top five brands has declined compared to the previous year, other brands have performed strongly, stabilizing the overall market shipment volume. Brands such as OnePlus, Infinix, Tecno, and Motorola have achieved strong growth, mainly due to the expansion of channels and increased product offerings.”
