Nissan Explores Exporting Electric Cars Developed and Made in China to International Markets

【PhoneAuto News】Recently, PhoneAuto learned that Masafumi Matsuyama, General Manager of Nissan (China) Investment Co., Ltd., stated that Nissan is considering exporting existing internal combustion engine vehicles produced and developed in China, as well as upcoming pure electric and hybrid vehicles, to overseas markets. It is worth mentioning that on the same day, Nissan announced the establishment of a joint research center with Tsinghua University, initiating collaborative research on new topics starting in 2024. The research topics include the role and social responsibility of companies in the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, including charging infrastructure, battery recycling and reuse, and energy management. From sales data, Nissan’s cumulative sales in China from January to November this year were 694,900 units, a year-on-year decrease of 28.66%. In order to accelerate the transition to new energy, Nissan announced its “Launch DNA+” strategy in China in November.

Shojiro Nakayama, CEO of Dongfeng Co., Ltd., stated that by the end of 2026, they will introduce 10 new locally developed new energy vehicles to the Chinese market, including Nissan, Venucia, and Dongfeng brands, among which four models will be Nissan brand new energy vehicles. It is reported that the first independently developed Nissan brand new energy vehicle will be launched in the second half of 2024. For Nissan, the fierce market competition in the Chinese market this year has clearly put a lot of pressure on them. The rapid development of the new energy market, as well as the various promotional incentives offered by major brands, have had a significant impact on the overall market landscape.

In addition, Dongfeng Co., Ltd. will actively engage in export business with the support of Dongfeng Group and Nissan globally. Dongfeng Co., Ltd. will develop international markets, starting from 2025, with an initial export sales target of 100,000 units, including four models of Nissan brand new energy vehicles, and will continuously increase the export quantity according to actual conditions.
