80% Charge in Five Minutes Toshiba Japan is Developing New Lithium Car Batteries

Revolutionizing Car Batteries Toshiba Japan Launching New Lithium Technology for 80% Charge in Just Five Minutes

【PhoneAuto News】Currently, in the field of electric vehicles, Japanese companies are noticeably lagging behind their competitors in China and the United States. However, PhoneAuto recently noticed that Toshiba in Japan plans to make a move in the battery sector of cars. They will be developing a new type of lithium-ion battery for electric vehicles.

According to reports, Japanese manufacturers are focusing their efforts on solving the stable supply issue of batteries for electric vehicles. In this context, Toshiba has recently developed a lithium-ion battery that does not contain the rare metal cobalt. This battery utilizes a special positive electrode material, which can significantly suppress the generation of gas that causes battery expansion, thereby improving battery performance.

This new type of battery also boasts excellent fast charging capability, able to charge up to 80% in just 5 minutes. This charging speed is a huge advantage for pure electric vehicles, as it can greatly shorten charging time, enhance usability, and significantly boost the competitive edge of electric vehicles in the market.

In addition, the lithium-ion battery without cobalt also has other advantages. Since it does not contain the rare metal cobalt, this battery has lower manufacturing costs and is also environmentally friendly. The collection and refining process of cobalt causes significant environmental issues, such as pollution to soil and water sources.

Data shows that in the 2022 fiscal year, the sales of new pure electric passenger vehicles in Japan reached approximately 77,000 units, tripled compared to the previous year. The sales of mini pure electric vehicles in Japan also surged by 48 times, surpassing 41,000 units, accounting for more than half of the total sales of pure electric vehicles. Therefore, the local market for pure electric vehicles in Japan has great potential for development.
