Shen Ziyu reveals Meizu’s acquisition behind the scenes, while also stating that Meizu’s advantages are not inferior to Xiaomi
Shen Ziyu reveals Meizu's acquisition and asserts that Meizu's advantages are on par with Xiaomi
【Phoneauto News】In 2022, Xingji Era strategically invested in Meizu Technology and acquired over 79% of the controlling rights. Since then, Meizu Technology, a well-established domestic smartphone manufacturer, has entered a new development stage. On July 19th, Phoneauto noticed that some media outlets interviewed Shen Ziyu, the Chairman and CEO of Xingji Meizu Group. During the interview, Shen Ziyu revealed some insider information about the Meizu Technology acquisition.
According to the disclosure, although Xingji Era was established in 2021, the strategic investment in Meizu was made in 2022. However, it seems that Xingji Era initially did not intend to acquire Meizu. They did not actively seek out acquisition targets and only contacted Meizu Technology later. Moreover, the negotiations between the two parties lasted only three to four months, very quickly. Before encountering Meizu Technology, Xingji Era was considering producing smartphones. At that time, they wanted to enter the high-end smartphone market, with product prices around 5,000 to 6,000 yuan, aiming to make money without pursuing high sales volume.
Regarding the acquisition value of Meizu, Shen Ziyu stated that Meizu Technology has 30 million users in the Meizu community, 100 million registered users of the Flyme system, and 5-6 million daily active users. These are its core assets. It would be difficult for Xingji Era to start from scratch. Although Meizu Technology was still profitable at the time, it had reached a bottleneck in its development. After cooperating with Xingji Era, Meizu Technology will have access to larger resources, such as the supply chain. With the integration of the entire vehicle and smartphone supply chain and full synergy with Geely Automobile, Meizu Technology’s advantages in the supply chain are no less than those of Xiaomi.

In addition, regarding the Meizu 20 series that will be launched in the first half of 2023, Shen Ziyu stated that this product has been very successful, with production determining sales and supply being unable to meet demand. However, the future supply of the Meizu 20 series may be relatively limited. Some materials from Qualcomm and Samsung need to be ordered six months in advance, and it is no longer possible to place orders now because the product line will be upgraded at the end of the year (this upgrade may refer to the Meizu 21 series).
