【PhoneAuto News】Recently, some netizens discovered a “brake nod alleviation system” fee-based feature on the ninth generation Camry at the Guangzhou Auto Show. The feature, when enabled, controls the vehicle’s pitch angle during non-emergency braking to reduce the “nodding” phenomenon, providing a more comfortable driving experience for all occupants. As a result, netizens and media questioned whether comfortable braking now comes at a cost. On November 22nd, PhoneAuto learned about the response from GAC Toyota.

GAC Toyota stated that this system is not the “brake” itself, but a feature developed to improve passenger comfort during braking. By appropriately distributing braking force among different wheels, it effectively controls the vehicle’s pitch angle and reduces the “nodding” phenomenon, making the braking smoother. This feature does not require additional payment to use. The showcased vehicles at the Guangzhou Auto Show were test vehicles, and the displayed functions on the in-car screen were for testing purposes. This system will be installed in the all-new ninth generation Camry models, with specific model availability subject to mass production.

GAC Toyota’s response

According to our understanding, the “brake nod alleviation system” does not refer to the hardware of the vehicle’s braking system. It is merely a program, the function of which can be understood as “comfortable braking”. When a vehicle brakes, it experiences inertia, and the front axle bears greater braking force, causing the vehicle to slightly dip. If the brake pedal is not released when stopping, the brake pads will continue to keep the entire powertrain in a braking state. To release this force, the brake pedal needs to be briefly released to separate the brake caliper from the brake disc and release pressure, after which it can be locked to achieve parking.
