As usual, Apple will update the systems of its five major hardware products. At this year’s WWDC23, Apple will bring new iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14, tvOS 17, and watchOS 10. Among them, iOS 17 is the most anticipated.
This time, iOS 17 will have three major changes:
First, the Control Center will be greatly changed and the UI style will be readjusted.
The changes in appearance are often easier to perceive than updates in functionality. As we all know, Apple’s design has always been unique. Loyal Apple fans know that since the release of iOS 11 in 2017, the appearance and overall layout of the Control Center have remained basically unchanged. However, in iOS 16 released at last year’s WWDC22, Apple made a huge change by allowing users to customize the lock screen interface, bringing greater playability. This time, iOS 17 will continue to make changes in terms of UI.
Secondly, Lingdong Island has been improved to support more functions.
Last year, Apple brought the iPhone 14 series to the fall product launch, and the Pro models brought expected innovations in both appearance and functionality. One of the most striking features is the “Lingdong Island” function. According to the latest information, the iPhone 15 series will be equipped with Lingdong Island in the entire series. In order to better use Lingdong Island on the iPhone, Apple may integrate Siri animation into Lingdong Island, no longer blocking the screen below, and the AirPods pairing popup may also be integrated into Lingdong Island.
Thirdly, the lock screen interface has been updated, and the Live Activity window has been greatly upgraded.
In many people’s perceptions, Live Activity is a widget placed at the bottom of the iPhone lock screen, which can display real-time data such as taxi progress, takeaway progress, etc. In iOS 17, Apple will redesign the Live Activity interface for Apple Maps, and users can use more powerful Live Activity to view maps and other information without unlocking. At the same time, there may be some small updates to the custom lock screen, including more customization options to make the interface more personalized.
In addition, iOS 17 will also bring a series of new functions, mainly providing more assistance and convenience for people with disabilities. It is reported that iOS 17 will be announced at WWDC 23 and push the developer preview version, push the public test version in July, and officially push it together with the new iPhone in September. It is worth mentioning that the adapted models may include some old models with 3GB of memory, including the iPhone X and iPhone 8 series.
In addition to iOS 17, the update of watchOS 10 will also be a major highlight. WatchOS 10 will be the largest software update for Apple Watch since 2015, including an updated UI interface and a new small widget function, which will become a key core part of the Apple Watch interface, and will also adjust the digital crown function.
As Apple’s first mixed reality device, the new headset device will be the highlight of this exhibition.
Since 2017, rumors about the first headset from Apple have been popping up in discussion circles within the technology industry. Various reports suggest that the Apple headset is indeed on its way.
According to foreign media reports, Apple’s mixed reality headset has advanced technology and a large number of sensors, supporting eye and hand tracking and analyzing the wearer’s bodily movements, eye movements, and external environment. This product will use the Pancake+Micro OLED scheme, with the Micro OLED screen provided by Sony. It will be equipped with two 5-nanometer M2 series chips, which will provide powerful performance.
Compared with mainstream headset devices on the market, Apple’s MR headset adopts a more unique design. In order to reduce the weight of the head-mounted product and lower heat consumption, Apple’s headset will adopt an external battery design to further improve comfort. A digital crown similar to that of the Apple Watch may be added to the right side of the device to allow for one-key switching between AR and VR modes.
As for the price that everyone is most concerned about, this headset is expected to be priced high, with a retail price of $3,000, in line with the company’s pricing strategy. For reference, this price is three times the retail price of the high-end Meta Quest Pro headset.
In addition, a new xrOS operating system will be launched at this WWDC conference. This is software that runs on the headset device. “xrOS” stands for “extended reality,” and it will have an interface similar to iOS, with a main screen of application icons that can be rearranged and customizable widgets.
According to the latest news, Apple is developing several new models, including a 15-inch MacBook Air, a new 13-inch MacBook Air, and an entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro.
Among the above products, the 15-inch MacBook Air is the most concerning object for Apple fans.
In recent years, large-sized and lightweight laptops have become more popular among consumers. Looking at the Apple MacBook product line, it is mainly divided into four different sizes: 13.3 inches (13-inch MacBook Pro), 13.6 inches (M2 MacBook Air), 14.2 inches (MacBook Pro), and 16.2 inches (MacBook Pro). It can be found that none of them is a product that focuses on large-sized and lightweight laptops. Therefore, it is very necessary to launch a large-sized MacBook Air to meet consumers’ needs.
According to the test log, this new MacBook has the code name “Mac 15.3”. This product uses the same chip as the current M2, with 8 main processors and 10 graphic cores, and is also equipped with 8GB of memory, which is equivalent to the existing MacBook Air. It will also be equipped with MagSafe 3 charging port, Thunderbolt 3 port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and Force Touch trackpad and other configurations.
However, the display of the 15-inch MacBook Air is larger and has a higher resolution. In addition, the body may have a larger battery, bringing better battery life performance.
Overall, there are still many highlights in this WWDC23. What do you look forward to the most? In a while, the WWDC conference will be held, and then we will know what surprises Apple will bring. Let’s wait and see!
