Great Wall Motors plans to fully enter the European market and is currently selecting a location for its research and development center.

Great Wall Motors to Expand into European Market, Currently Seeking Location for New Research and Development Center

【PhoneAuto News】Sina Technology has learned from the relevant personnel of Great Wall that Great Wall Motors is planning to enter the European market comprehensively. After entering the German and British markets, Great Wall Motors plans to expand to eight new European markets.

According to insiders, the eight new European markets that Great Wall Motors plans to enter are Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, and Switzerland. Currently, Great Wall Motors’ overseas brand GWM has already started real estate and sales planning in Europe and has begun site selection for research and development centers. In European countries such as Germany, the UK, Ireland, and Sweden, GWM has established partnerships with local partners, and agreements with partners in other markets are also being prepared.

Now, Chinese car companies have begun to choose to go overseas and participate in competition in broader overseas markets. However, it is not an easy road for Chinese car companies that want to enter the European market. In terms of policies, in September of this year, the European Commission announced the official launch of an anti-subsidy investigation into imported electric vehicles from China. In terms of the market, Europe is the stronghold of many well-known car companies, including BBA. It is also a great challenge to compete with them on their home turf.

Regarding the European Union’s anti-subsidy investigation, in October of this year, Mu Feng, the president of Great Wall Motors, said on Weibo that Great Wall Motors had already submitted the first response materials on October 11. “Chinese car companies going abroad will face difficulties, but we are firm and determined to accelerate our pace of going abroad.” He revealed at the time that Great Wall Motors had started the site selection work for European factories, would introduce more new energy vehicle models in Europe, accelerate the construction of a localized R&D team in Europe, and bring more new energy and intelligent technologies and resources into Europe.
