Huawei’s Li Xiaolong reveals the best-selling password of Huawei Mate X3 and P60 series

Li Xiaolong from Huawei reveals best-selling passwords for Mate X3 and P60 series

【PhoneAuto News】On May 24th, at a “Huawei Mobile Innovation and Technology Media Communication Meeting,” Huawei Terminal BG CTO Li Xiaolong shared the new breakthroughs of Huawei P60 series in mobile imaging technology and CMF aesthetic design, and provided in-depth analysis of the comprehensive innovation of Huawei Mate X3 in “lightweight and reliable”, “opening and closing experience” and “intuitive communication.”

This communication meeting not only answered the industry’s questions about Huawei Mate X3 and the P60 series’ “technologically advanced features,” but also revealed the success code for the sustained hot sales of these “flagship twins” – continuous breakthrough innovation, bringing ultimate innovative experiences to consumers constantly.

According to the market research firm Canalys, data shows that in Q1 of 2023, the domestic smartphone market continued its downward trend, with sales dropping by 13% year-on-year compared to the same period in 2022. However, it is also worth noting that among many smartphone brands, Huawei’s shipments in China increased against the trend by 41%, and its market share rose to 9.2%, becoming the only brand in the Chinese smartphone market to achieve significant growth.

From Q4 of 2022 to Q1 of 2023, Huawei’s mobile phone has achieved year-on-year growth for two consecutive quarters under the overall downward trend of the market. Some analysis agencies pointed out that there are two reasons for such changes: one is due to consumers’ long-term trust in the Huawei mobile phone brand, and the other is from consumers’ recognition of Huawei’s continuous product innovation over the past decade.

From the news of the Beidou satellite in the Mate 50 series, Kunlun glass, Huawei’s image XMAGE, to Huawei’s immersive display, intuitive communication, and two-way Beidou satellite news on the Mate X3 and P60 series, Huawei continues to optimize various dimensions that affect users’ experience with the device, and ultimately, quantitative changes lead to qualitative changes. In the stock market game, more and more consumers prioritize Huawei when facing the need to upgrade their phones.

Technological innovation is the primary driving force for the development of the smartphone industry. Consumer demand for purchasing phones often accompanies the release of breakthrough innovations in smartphones. From the sharing of Huawei Terminal BG CTO Li Xiaolong, we can also see Huawei’s determination to continuously improve the user experience in various dimensions of smartphones. From imaging technology to screen display, from communication technology to structural design and material technology, the innovative DNA deeply influences every aspect of the user’s experience.

During this communication meeting, Li Xiaolong deeply analyzed how Huawei Mate X3 continues to lead the development of foldable screen phones. From the design of the entire structure, the “topology optimization” method was first introduced, exploring the ultimate optimal solution through simulation testing and continuous iteration. Focusing on the innovation of ultra-light and thin devices, breaking through industry technology bottlenecks, and developing ultra-thin integrated Type-C devices and ultra-thin 50W wireless charging modules. Also, not letting go of the opportunity to reduce weight by 0.1 gram, using a variety of high-end self-developed materials such as ultra-light diamond aluminum, to achieve the perfect performance triangle of light weight, drop resistance, and bend resistance. Huawei Mate X3 is reduced in thickness and weight in all aspects, weighing only 239g and being as thin as 5.3mm, making it the first time for a large-screen foldable phone to be lighter and thinner than a large-screen flat phone.

At the same time, Huawei also delved into the uncharted territory of material science. For the first time in the industry, it applied an impact-resistant non-Newtonian fluid material to the composite layer structure of the large screen of Huawei Mate X3, introducing the key factor of “dynamic chemical bonds” to achieve cushioning and energy absorption. Overcoming the three technical difficulties of opacity, poor adhesion, and easy deformation, it brings an anti-impact effect of “strong against strong, weak against weak”, increasing the anti-impact capability of the folding inner screen by 4 times, bringing users a lasting and reliable experience. In addition, based on precise fitting of human factors, Huawei Mate X3 brings extreme opening and closing feel, light and smooth, stable hovering, and crisp and flexible through a new dual-track direct-drive unit and high-precision cam design.

Underneath its ultra-thin body, the Huawei Mate X3 achieves an IPX8 water resistance rating through innovative split-sealing structure and flexible sealant materials. Additionally, it boasts powerful communication capabilities with exclusive patents such as intelligent dual-mode tuning and dual-link signal enhancement technology, which enhances signal strength in different hand-held positions and opening modes, providing users with a high-quality and smooth signal experience. Its exceptional and versatile product capabilities have won the recognition and trust of a wide range of users.

At the same time, Li Xiaolong also revealed the secrets behind the Huawei P60 Pro’s ultra-telephoto night vision lens group. Based on the goal of “increasing the amount of light entering the telephoto module while considering the appearance and hand feel of light and thin design,” Huawei P60 Pro creatively added a spotlight lens group to the telephoto module, achieving an F2.1 large aperture while maintaining a light and thin design. Combined with the RYYB ultra-sensitive sensor, this ultimately resulted in a significant increase in light entering the telephoto module while considering the thickness and weight of the device.

For this solution, Huawei R&D engineers spent three years breaking through the technical schemes of front spotlight lens, new optical path design, spotlight bonding scheme, and a series of detection technology schemes. This also promoted the development and progress of the upstream and downstream industry chains and the industry as a whole.

The conventional anti-shake solution for telephoto cameras is to design a focusing motor at the first prism and then place the image sensor at the end of the imaging system. However, due to the front spotlight lens of the Huawei P60 Pro, the traditional anti-shake solution cannot meet the requirements. In order to further achieve a lighter and thinner module structure, Huawei pioneered a sensor-horizontal double-prism optical system structure. By adding a rear prism at the end of the telephoto module, the light is folded back twice, and the light axis parallel to the mobile phone screen is folded again to be perpendicular to the mobile phone screen. At the same time, the image sensor is placed flat to achieve innovative telephoto three-axis sensor displacement anti-shake, which not only supports image sensor movement in the X and Y directions but also adds a rotation anti-shake of the Z-axis sensor plane. Compared with traditional OIS anti-shake, it brings a 58% improvement in optical anti-shake performance at the same error precision.

For consumers, telephoto macro is also a great tool for image creation. The Huawei P60 Pro achieves clear imaging from long distance to macro by redesigning the long-stroke sliding zoom lens group and optimizing the imaging lens group. Thanks to the F2.1 large aperture’s spotlight ability, it can still capture small details in low light conditions, bringing more creative possibilities.

The success of the Huawei Mate X3 and P60 series shows that consumers not only pay attention to the performance and quality of products when choosing a mobile phone, but also value innovation and whether it can bring a new and improved user experience and solve practical pain points. This is also the reason why Huawei can deeply understand consumer choices and trust, relying on bottom-up innovation in mobile imaging technology, structure, materials, and processes to constantly bring differentiated and ultimate experiences to consumers.
