Although the iPhone 15 series has performed well in sales in Europe and the United States, it has experienced a sluggish start and has fallen behind the previous generation series in the Chinese market. Several suppliers have pointed out that Apple has informed component vendors that the production forecast is only on par with the 2022 level, with the iPhone 15 series production at around 85 million units. In previous years, Apple’s estimated quantities were usually higher.

In addition, according to the latest data from Counterpoint, the initial sales of the iPhone 15 in the Chinese market have decreased by 4.5% compared to 2022. Apart from the Chinese market, the sales situation of the iPhone 15 in the US market is also not optimistic. According to a third round of special annual surveys, due to many Apple customers continuing to use older models rather than upgrading to the new iPhone 15, it is expected that the sales of iPhones will stagnate next year.

Counterpoint senior analyst Ivan Lam stated that the current inventory of the iPhone 15 series is around 80 million units, possibly slightly lower. Apple will adjust the production plan for Q1 2024 based on the sales performance in October or November. Several investment banks have also predicted that the shipments of the iPhone 15 will be between 70 million and 80 million units, lower than the 90 million units or more of the iPhone 14 in the same period last year.
