Mercedes-Benz announces the recall of 32,786 imported S-Class/EQS vehicles due to software issues

Mercedes-Benz recalls 32,786 imported S-Class/EQS vehicles for software issues

【Phoneauto News】Recently, Mercedes-Benz (China) Automotive Sales Co., Ltd. has filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation in accordance with the “Regulations on the Management of Defective Automotive Product Recalls” and the “Implementation Measures for the Regulations on the Management of Defective Automotive Product Recalls”. Starting from today, a total of 32,786 imported S-Class and EQS vehicles produced between June 14, 2021, and March 22, 2023, will be recalled.

Due to software issues, the internal monitoring program of the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) in the vehicles within the recall scope may incorrectly detect faults at the beginning of the driving cycle, leading to limited functionality of the vehicle’s dynamic control system and posing safety hazards. Mercedes-Benz (China) Automotive Sales Co., Ltd. will upgrade the ESP control unit software free of charge through authorized Mercedes-Benz dealers to eliminate the safety hazards for the vehicles within the recall scope.

Although it is a luxury car brand, Mercedes-Benz is famous for its frequent recalls. Just on June 30, Mercedes-Benz (China) Automotive Sales Co., Ltd. also filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation: starting from January 10, 2024, a total of 2,518 imported G-Class vehicles produced between June 1, 2018, and December 20, 2019, will be recalled.

It is understood that the engine control unit software of these 2,518 imported G-Class vehicles does not comply with the specifications in the catalyst monitoring section, which leads to the inability to timely detect excessive aging catalyst failures. Additionally, the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) will not illuminate as expected after two driving cycles, posing emission hazards. Mercedes-Benz will upgrade the engine control unit software free of charge through authorized dealers to eliminate the emission hazards for the vehicles within the recall scope.
