Ford recalls 41 million vehicles in the first half of 2023, the most in the US

【phoneauto News】Recently, phoneauto noticed that according to the data released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the United States, Ford Motor Company issued a total of 31 recalls in the first half of 2023, involving 4.1 million vehicles in the United States, making it the automaker with the highest number of recalls. In the same period last year, Ford also topped the “recall list” and issued a total of 44 recalls involving 6.7 million vehicles.

The largest-scale recall by Ford in the first half of the year involved 1.3 million old Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles, due to front brake hose rupture. The smallest-scale recall involved 18 F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks. Previously, Ford discovered a potential battery defect in this model, and one of them caught fire in February. According to NHTSA data, Ford recalled faulty vehicles 68 times in the whole year of 2022, involving 8.7 million vehicles, making it the automaker with the highest number of recalls for two consecutive years. On the occasion of NHTSA’s release of the first half of 2023 data, Ford stated that it is working hard to improve quality issues, especially for its highly anticipated models.

Recently, Ford spokesperson Maria Buczkowski said: Our goal is to build first-class quality performance for F-150, Super Duty, Bronco, and Ranger trucks by 2025 and be in a leading position in all other areas. In cases where we have failed to prevent quality issues, our obligation to customers is to promptly identify and resolve these issues. Recall is one way to achieve this goal and is a particularly visible part of our efforts to improve overall quality performance.

Although Ford has the highest number of recalls, Michael Brooks, Executive Director of the Center for Auto Safety, a consumer rights protection organization, said: This does not mean that the quality and workmanship of Ford vehicles are worse than other automakers. To some extent, the more recalls, the more they are protecting customers.
