According to statistics from the Beijing Municipal Traffic Management Department, in 2022, there were 131 accidents and 138 deaths caused by illegal electric three- and four-wheelers in Beijing. According to the Beijing police, the stability, rigidity, and relevant safety technical indicators of illegal electric three- and four-wheelers do not meet national standards. In some serious accidents, the vehicles cannot protect the drivers and can easily cause more serious casualties and property losses. The police stated that many of the illegal electric three-wheelers involved in accidents do not have relevant technical standards and do not meet national regulations, including brake systems and their oversized driving motors, which result in excessive pushing force and the vehicles are prone to lose control. If such a vehicle experiences a rollover or tilt, once it loses control, it is difficult to correct it. Therefore, these vehicles pose significant safety risks when driving on the road.
